Numerous guests appreciated thoughtful touches like welcome packs with milk, biscuits, and even homemade chutney. While these gestures are warmly received, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Tweed and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around Chirnside as a memorial to the village's home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf and riding opportunities and a fun-packed leisure centre, whilst the nearby resort of Spittal offers soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon.

On the positive side it was warm, clean and had a nice welcome packet. The kitchen is well equipped but the chest freezer is badly stained. It is tired and in urgent need of redecorating. The recent installation of a shower has resulted in very poor decoration with paint runs everywhere on the skirting board. The shower pressure is barely adequate. The patio is uneven and overgrown.

The house is well equipped clean and comfortable with lots of space, in a great location for visiting the places on the coast and in the neighbouring countryside we wanted to visit. The stay was over all too soon.

The owner and her daughter were very friendly and responded to request for extra blanket, instructions re heating and replacement of a broken lamp. The home made chutney and marmalade were also greatly appreciated. As has been said in earlier reviews the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable which was not good. Also there were continuous problems with the heating system. One of the radiators did not work at all and the thermostats on the others were not responsive to alteration. The daughter advised us how to manage the system but the promised work on the defunct radiator never happened. There were no instructions for the heating or for the log burning stove which we failed to get to work. No kindling was left and the door of the stove was caked with soot. Overall the living room felt quite dark and depressing and a light on was needed throughout the day. The dark brown, mismatched furniture did not help to cheer up the place. The property had a very high standard of cleanliness so in conclusion there were lots of positives but a number of negatives as stated.
