No smoking.. South-facing and semi-detached, Avenel Cottage has a wonderful outlook across Yetholm Loch to the Cheviot Hills beyond. It is set in a gloriously peaceful location on the edge of the Old Lochside Estate, just 2 miles from Town Yetholm. The living/dining room has views over the loch, a wonderful oak beamed fireplace, comfortable sofas.
On the first floor the main bedroom has an imposing wood carved headboard on the kingsize bed and an additional single bed. The second bedroom has a ¾ size double bed and a cupboard full of teddy bears. The garden to the back of the cottage is fully enclosed and has sunny, sheltered seating areas. Direct access to paths adjacent to the loch. Nearby, there are the lovely border towns of Kelso, 7 miles, Jedburgh, 14 miles, and Melrose, 23 miles. These attractive towns are well worth exploring with many good eating places, art and craft galleries, local food producers and ancient abbeys. There are many local castles and country houses to visit, along with the Northumbrian coast, Holy Island and the Farne Islands, which can all be easily enjoyed within a day. Shop and pubs 2½ miles, other restaurants, shops and services 7 miles.
Avenel Cottage can be booked together with Lochside Garden House (S4484) and Lochside Stable House (UPK) to accommodate up to 29 guests.

£70 cash amenaties fee/charge for week on top of booking feeHad to fix fence on arrival as garden not secure for dog. Beds all had worn out springs so terrible first night - he did replace main bed mattress with a new one he had put into his new project next door, after he popped in for his extra cash payment. Main bedroom, roof skylight window no blind or shutter and main window had such thin curtains light came through from 5am,ended up putting a pillow in skylight window and using the bedspread as a curtain to keep light out - not classy but desperate times called for quick solution.Bath horrible stains and no antislip mat and a shower curtain thats fitted so far inside the bath it sticks to you whilst you are showering. Then as for the running toilet-lifting the handle as advised doesnt always work and you get a ghost flush when it refills and then starts a full constant flush after, until you lift top off and release the ballcock. (We didnt go on holiday to become resident plumbers) leak under toilet.Washer doesnt work, I mistakenly put clothes in and then when it wouldnt fill with water spent hours trying various cycles until door released. Again was allowed to use brand new one in house next door but not whats advertised.Microwave is damaged and rusty, doors are not firedoors- strange when open fire in house, tumble drier under stairs with wood store not a firesafey place eitherBasically, he says when next door is finished this house will be renovated, however it shouldnt be let out in its current state

Really enjoyed our short break at Avenel Cottage. Very peaceful and relaxing location, with good walks nearby for dog-walking. Cosy and welcoming cottage , and very helpful host . Enjoyed the jigsaw selection.
