The Smiddy - S4278 is a traditional cottage in Lochearnhead, appreciated for its character, amenities, and location. Guests enjoyed the wood burner, the brilliant shower, and the proximity to outdoor activities. The property is described as cosy, homely, and a good value, with a friendly host providing local information. Some guests found it cold and suggested it's better suited for summer stays.
Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests reported the property as needing a thorough clean, with dust and cobwebs present, while others did not raise cleanliness as an issue. This suggests room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to outdoor activities, hillwalking, and a nearby pub. The scenic surroundings and access to local attractions contribute to a positive experience.
Comfort received mixed feedback. Guests enjoyed the cosy atmosphere with the wood burner, but some found the property cold, particularly in the open plan living area. The lack of sound insulation in some bedrooms was also noted.
Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and effective wood burner. However, some guests mentioned the need for sharper knives and a pair of scissors, and one review suggested the furniture was tired and in need of replacement.
While the host is described as very friendly and helpful, providing local information, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score cannot be determined.

Great location - very good value for money - fulfilled our need for a few days away. It was very nicely converted from a smiddy to a five bedded property (one double and two twins). As two of the rooms were twins it was good for our group as we are just friends and sharing a double bed would not have been appropriate. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Information in the visitors guide about local activities, food outlets etc was very good. The wood burner was very effective once we got it going - the heat permeated up the stairs into the bedrooms. Once the fabric of the house heated up the place was toasty. I don't think it was made clear that the two twin rooms didn't have solid walls - they had a door each but where there would have been a wall there was simply a heavy curtain. This meant that there was no sound insultaion at all in any part of the cottage (apart from the one double bedded room which had a door and walls. The kitchen could have done with a pair of scisors and sharper knives......Apart from that everything else was excellent.

A traditional cottage full of character and quirkiness, but with all the amenities required for self catering. A little cold in the evening, but this was rectified by the wood burner and or the electric heaters. A brilliant shower, plenty of hot water. There is no shop in the village so you do need transport to go to Killin for provisions. However, there is a pub within 5 minutes walk if you want to eat out. We had a fantastic week in Lochearnhead, outdoor activities everyday, mainly Munro bashing and cycling. Excellent.
