The spacious accommodation is finished to an exceptionally high standard, and was built on a fabric-first approach ensuring that it has a low environmental impact. Nothing has been spared with a Morsø Wood Burning stove, underfloor heating and fully fitted kitchen. The living area features sliding doors leading to a south facing deck from which you can relax and enjoy the surrounding tranquil woodland setting. An ideal spot to unplug from the pressures of ‘the usual wheel of day-to-day life.’
With Eco Tourism at its heart, History and Wildlife tours of the surrounding Estate can be booked for an additional charge. There are cycle routes from the door which allow you to explore the immediate area and link to public transport in Alloa for those wishing to travel further afield without the need for a car.
Well worth a visit are The Kelpies, icons of Scottish Folklore, these majestical feats of engineering stand over 100 feet tall, beside the Forth & Clyde canal, combined with a canal boat trip on the Falkirk wheel is a great day out for those of all ages. If you get the opportunity to enter the Kelpies, then do so. The best way to admire the workmanship above is by lying on the floor. St Andrews the ‘Home of Golf’ and the East Neuk of Fife are easily accessible for a day trip to the coast, with Scotland’s Secret Bunker, this historical site of a cold war operations centre allows you to experience the life of those who kept the UK safe at the time.
For those looking to explore Scotland’s rich history and culture the city of Stirling is less than a 30-minute drive away. Stirling Castle has played a key role in Scotland’s history over the centuries and is well worth a visit, as are the views from The Wallace Monument surveying the lands where William Wallace victoriously led his troops at the battle of Stirling Bridge. With more colourful history at the Battle of Bannock Burn where Robert the Bruce famously defeated King Edward II of England. The cosmopolitan cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh are less than an hour away and have good train links from nearby Alloa.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Mertrick Bothy and found everything we needed for a few days and even more - beautiful nature, great interior design, very helpful and supportive host, bedding like in heaven ... I could continue like that or just state: I would always come back and in best case for even more days!
