About this property

Woodview is a welcoming single-storey house set in the small settlement of Brevig on the Isle of Barra. Offering a relaxed base for families and friends looking to explore this distinctive part of the Outer Hebrides, boasting an open fire and allows pets. Arrival is straightforward, with off-road parking that allows you to pull up, unload with ease, and take in the rural setting before stepping inside. From the outset, the house feels laid out for shared stays, with everything on one level and rooms flowing naturally from one to the next. Entering the property, you are drawn into the sitting room where evenings can be spent gathered together, settling into the seating with a book or board game while the open fire brings warmth and a gentle glow after a day outdoors. Moving through to the kitchen, there is space to prepare hearty breakfasts before setting off, or to cook evening meals using local produce, with the kettle ready for a hot drink while plans are made around the table. The bedrooms are arranged to suit a variety of group make-ups, making it easy for children, friends, or extended family to settle in. The family bedroom works well for younger guests, while the double and single rooms offer simple, well-ordered spaces to rest and recharge. The bathroom, with its full-sized bath, is ideal for unwinding at the end of the day, whether rinsing off after a coastal walk or enjoying a slower start in the morning. Stepping back outside, the surrounding area encourages exploration. The coast is close enough for spontaneous walks, with sea air and changing light creating a different view each time. Castlebay is within easy reach for stocking up at the shop, enjoying a drink at the pub, or watching the ferries come and go, while the route towards Vatersay leads to wide open landscapes and a strong sense of island life. Within an hours walk or 5 minute drive of Woodview, Castlebay offers the chance to visit Kisimul Castle, where crossing the water to the island stronghold reveals stone walls, harbour views, and a deep sense of history. Vatersay rewards visitors with sweeping beaches, pale sand underfoot, and opportunities for wildlife spotting along the shore. Barra Airport provides a memorable experience as planes arrive and depart directly from the beach, with timings set by the tide and views stretching across the bay. Woodview in Brevig brings together a straightforward, well-placed house and an island setting that invites discovery, making it a fitting choice for a shared stay on the Isle of Barra.

Benbecula is one of the isles of the Outer Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland, and is connected to its neighbours, North and South Uist, by a series of causeways. The main town on Benbecula is Balivanich, which hosts shops, cafes and Post Office, as well as being home to Benbecula Airport. Scattered across the island are many fresh water and sea lochs and moorland, so there are ample opportunities for some fishing and wildlife spotting. At the shores of the island, the Atlantic coasts boasts wide white beaches and sand dunes which add to the remote and peaceful nature of the area. An easy drive from Benbecula, Lochmaddy, the main town of North Uist, is home to a museum, arts centre and is also the main ferry terminal for the three islands. North Uist is renowned for its birdlife and the rspb maintains a nature reserve at Balranald. Many prehistoric structures are scattered throughout the islands, adding to the mysterious atmosphere of these remote and beautiful landscapes.
