About this property

Daliburgh 4.5 miles. Nestled into the coastal village of Smercleit, near Daliburgh, Scotland, a quaint single-storey seaside cottage overlooking the islands of Lingeigh and Barra. Lingeigh is the perfect location for a family holiday to South Uist. Park off-road and head into a world of Hebridean relaxation in this home-from-home property. Featuring a mixture of rustic and contemporary décor, in keeping with the theme of a seaside holiday cottage, a spacious living room invites you to relax with three leather sofas, warming your feet with an electric fire stove as you catch up on your favourite shows. When stomachs start to rumble, create a family dinner in the conveniently fitted kitchen/diner, where you will find all of the home comforts to make your stay easy, and with a dining table stationed beside French windows, opening up onto the scenic landscape surrounding the property. When the evening draws to a close, settle down into one of the three available bedrooms, featuring a king-size room with a handy en-suite shower room and ample storage for all of your belongings, a double room with a delightful rustic feel and a twin room, perfect for children, with a family bathroom. Outside, there is a seating area where you can sip your morning coffee and plan the day ahead of you, with your four-legged-friends reclining in the sunshine on the lawn. The location of this property is one that offers plentiful walks, sandy beaches and places to wild swim and kayak, as well as long stretches of quiet roads, perfect for any keen road bikers or anyone else who wants to give the sport a try. Wildlife is abundant here, so if you love to feel the wilderness around you, you will be delighted to find birds such as the elusive corncrake, as well as the vast flowering meadows of the machair, a home for many insects and small mammals, as well as creating a stunning scene for you to admire. The nearest town is Daliburgh, where you will be pleased to find a selection of pubs, shops and a local convenience store where you can stock up on essentials before heading out into the more remote white sandy beaches. Explore the Isle of South Uist with a stay at Lingeigh. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Lochmaddy, or Oban to Lochboisdale.

Daliburgh is a town on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides and is known for being a crofting town. There is a memorial here to commemorate the life and works of Donald Allan MacDonald, a Gaelic poet who lived in Daliburgh in the mid 20th century. It is a great base from which to explore a fantastic selection of activities from fishing and walking to diving and birdwatching. The nearby Askernish Golf Course is always popular and was originally designed by ‘Old’ Tom Morris and is popular with golfers keen to test themselves on this challenging course. Dining options include fish and chips from the Burnside Chip Shop or for something a little more fancy dine in at the Borrodale Hotel. While you are in Daliburgh you can stock up on supplies at the supermarket and there is also a number of other shops including gifts shops. A short distance from Daliburgh is the fascinating Kildonan Museum and the birthplace of Flora MacDonald as well as a host of fabulous beaches just waiting to be discovered.

The house is set in a stunning location with sea views to the front and hill views to the back. Everything you need in the kitchen is there and the house feels very cosy . Parking is very good and I can really say that I would have no hesitation in recommending Lingeigh and I would certainly stay again if I return to the Uists in the future
