About this property

Tros Yr Afon, a Grade II-listed Georgian cottage in Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey, is ideally located for outstanding views. With period features, two gardens to choose from, and thoughtfully created with families in mind, this house makes an excellent base from which to explore this picturesque region of North Wales. As you arrive at the cottage, you will be greeted with off-road parking and breathtaking views of the sea and mountains. Drop your bags and make a cup of tea before admiring the scenery; the front yard is well-kept and suitable for alfresco dining with an unrivalled backdrop and a  wilder garden with at the back of the property gives a pleasant space for the youngsters to play while you gain some shade on hotter days. Inside, a delightful playroom continues the fun with a variety of age-appropriate toys, which the owners generously swap out between visitors, and a Smart TV to keep the kids entertained. The character then moves on to the kitchen/diner, where the group's chef may prepare a home-cooked meal for the family to eat at the dining table for six. Ascend the classic wooden staircase next and relax in front of the coal fire; the living room is conveniently located on the first floor to take advantage of the expansive mountain and sea views, making it the ideal site for a relaxed day after a leisurely stroll. Once your eyes tire, retire to the bedrooms for some well-deserved rest; a twin for your group's children is on the first floor, as is a bright and airy king-size that, once again, takes advantage of its location, allowing you to wake up to seascape and craggy mountaintops. Having returned to the ground floor, the last bedroom, a super-king-size, lets in plenty of light through the French doors, providing the lucky guests in this room with another lovely wakeup to the Menai Strait! Visit the surrounding region and fill up on necessities at local shops, boutiques, and bakeries. Go out on foot to discover Beaumaris's charms, such as the magnificent Beaumaris Castle and historic pier. Penmon Point provides the best view of Penmon Lighthouse and the charming Puffin Island, as well as going past the ruins of a priory and fuelling up at The Pilot House Cafe. Further afield, Anglesey's coastline spans for miles and provides a variety of watersports, with beaches and outcrops strewn along the way; why not explore by bike or car and venture out a little further? A bike tour with Green Lane Bike Tours is the ideal day out. Returning to the mainland, the Snowdonia National Park offers a plethora of outdoor activities in a picture-perfect environment for your travels. Whether you prefer to stay in and spend time with your family or discovering the stunning Isle of Anglesey, Tros Yr Afon is the perfect base.

The most beautiful sunrises may be seen in Beaumaris, a well-known ancient town on the Isle of Anglesey that is situated on the Menai Strait and overlooks the Snowdonia mountain range. It is also well-known as a significant hub for sailing, with its Edward I-era mediaeval castle (now a World Heritage site) and Victorian pier, jail, and courthouse. With a long history, Beaumaris still has a lot of its original mediaeval street layout. The town's environment, diversity of architectural styles and eras, variable scale, open spaces, different roofing, and overall quality all play a significant role in the character of the community. In addition to a golf course close by, the town offers a good assortment of stores, eateries, and bars, as well as options for boat trips and fishing. Red Wharf Bay, also known as Traeth Coch (Red Beach), is a sizable bay along the coast that is well-known for its spectacular sunsets. Due to the bay's extreme shallowness, approximately 25 square kilometres (10 square miles) of sand are exposed at low tide, making it safe for swimming, excellent for family outings, fishing, and miles of breathtakingly beautiful hikes. The port of Holyhead, farther away, has frequent ferry connections to Dublin. Beaumaris is a great starting point for seeing Wales because of its ideal location on the south coast of the charming Isle of Anglesey and proximity to the magnificent Snowdonia mountains.

It has everything you could wish for and more. The attention to the small details shows that the owners really care that you have a fantastic holiday. From the fully equipped kitchen, to the luxury bedding and super comfy beds, to the secret garden and fresh flowers on your bedside table! It is an old cottage and so full of character but please note if you have mobility problems there are a lot of stairs. However this did not detract one jot from our enjoyment. Jacqueline and Richard were so helpful and we appreciated the welcome pack especially the prosecco!! :-) They even arranged the sunny weather for our weeks stay! Many thanks xx
