About this property

Old Barns holiday cottage is in a serene location, ideal for wildlife enthusiasts as it backs on to a vast area of RSPB land. Located in the very centre of Anglesey means you are in a perfect position to explore all that the island has to offer. If you can bring yourself to leave the peaceful surroundings of the Old Barns, you will find Newborough Beach, arguably the most picturesque location in all of North Wales, just a few minutes away.

The sitting room is a really spacious area. One end has a seating area housing bookshelves and a flatscreen TV, and the other has a carpeted seating area surrounding a large open fireplace. French windows lead out to a decked area and lawned gardens.

There is a gallery bedroom/sitting area overlooking the main sitting room which has twin beds.

The kitchen is perfect for entertaining. In the day it is bright and airy, but in the evening you can close the thick, luxurious curtains and transform it into an intimate and cosy setting, perfect for a dinner to remember. There is a large dining table in the centre of this room. The kitchen is equipped with both an Aga and an electric cooker and microwave as well as a large American fridge/freezer, and the most important thing when you are on holiday - a dishwasher!

On the ground floor, located at opposite ends of the house, are two bedrooms comprising a master bedroom with en suite and another double bedroom. There are two shower rooms downstairs with shower, loo and wash basin. There is a twin room and a cloakroom upstairs.

The garden is fantastic! Open the doors of the sitting room and you can walk out onto the decking where you will find garden furniture. Sit here and enjoy the peace and quiet of your surroundings with a cuppa, or a nice glass of wine. The lawned area is great if you have children that want to let off some steam where you can keep an eye on their adventures.

Typical of many of our rural properties, access to the cottage is by a rough track.

The house is based around a gravel courtyard, and its large windows make the most of the views out over the fine Anglesey countryside. The house is so well suited for large groups and families with a number of places to relax whether it be in front of a roaring fire, basking in sunshine or escaping in the gallery. The kitchen is superb and has so much space that you will be able to cook a feast and still have room to sit around and chat.

The inland village of Pentre Berw is ideally situated 4 miles from the beautiful Menai Straits, on the road to Newborough with its fantastic beaches and forest walks, on the south coast of the delightful Isle of Anglesey. Only 4 miles away, discover the magnificent Llanddwyn Beach, 3 miles of golden sands boasting stunning walks and striking views across the glistening sea toward the Welsh mountains of Snowdonia, or explore the fascinating National Nature Reserve, renowned for its colourful birdlife, whispering forest and huge sweep of marshes and dunes. The National Trust’s Plas Newydd country house and gardens is a short drive and well worth a visit. Just 9 miles away, the historic town of Beaumaris, with its medieval castle and Victorian pier, offers a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs, whilst the whole of the island boasts superb watersports, fishing, diving, cycling and walking opportunities. The rspb marsh lands are at the foot of Pentre Berw and have become a must for birdwatchers, walkers and cyclists. The foot/cycle tarmac pathway is enjoyed by many and stretches from the picturesque Cefni Lake Reservoir all the way to Malltraeth, with Pentre Berw situated midway with easy access. Anglesey is proud of its modern motor sport racetrack venue, Trac Mon, near to Rhosneigr for both competitors and spectators alike. The nearby village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantisiliogogogoch only 3 miles away and boasts the longest village name in Britain. A wonderful location for a varied and enjoyable holiday.

The house is large and spacious yet warm and cosy, thanks to the aga and open log fire as well as ample central heating. This was so lovely to come back to after exploring all the stunning scenery that Anglesey has to offer. The rear garden has great space for eating outdoors and there’s lots of grass for dogs (or kids) to run around. To the front there is a wooded area where we enjoyed watching rabbits and red squirrels, as well as access to the surrounding nature reserve (we found wellies a good idea for this track during our autumn stay). The kitchen has everything you could need to feed a family, and the towels and linens provided were very clean and soft. The decor is in keeping with the style of the property and on the whole works very well. The owner has achieved a really nice lived-in feel which is lacking in a lot of holiday lets. On that note, this isn’t a pristine, like-new property, so may not be suited to those with very demanding standards on cleaning/upkeep. If the odd dusty shelf or stained carpet is a no-no for you then this probably isn’t your cup of tea. Personally I would also advise the owner to replace the mattress I slept on (the double bed furthest from the kitchen) but I understand that mattresses are a very subjective thing and others may find it more comfortable. In any case, it certainly didn’t stop my enjoyment of the weekend at Old Barns.

Vic was very helpful. The barn is bigger than suggested by the photos. Plenty of bathrooms and toilets. The track down to the barn is rough but passable. It’s fine if you have a 4x4/SUV but take it slowly with a coupe. Wouldn’t put us off staying again.

.. loads of space (and bathrooms!) A very beautiful location in itself and ideally situated for day trips to the mainland and other places of interest on Anglesey. Vic was a very considerate landlord.
