About this property

Words cannot describe how amazing this holiday house is! Standing above the Menai Strait, on Anglesey, half way between Menai Bridge and Beaumaris, it has stunning views with the dramatic backdrop of Snowdonia and its ever changing scenery. At night time the twinkling lights of boats sitting on their moorings, floodlit Penrhyn castle and the moonlight on the mountains and sea is magical.

The large welcoming hall and splendid staircase make a fitting entrance to this magnificent house. The drawing room is just waiting to be filled with a gathering of family and friends. Throw open the French windows and enjoy a drink on the terrace before dinner. The views are stunning.

Or relax in front of the log burning stove in the winter months. Comfy chairs and sofas, a card table and a special scrabble table completes the picture.

The billiard room doubles as a dining room. If you put the top on the billiard table and gather the chairs together you have a formal dining room.

The sitting room is ideal for children. It has a TV with DVD, toy cupboard, crayoning table and plenty of books. French windows open on to the terrace.

The gorgeous kitchen has a large farmhouse table and chairs to seat everyone. It is well equipped for cooking for large numbers with a Rangemaster cooker with two ovens and a six ring gas hob with griddle, magimix, hand blender, electric whisk, toasted sandwich maker and plenty of sensible sized saucepans and serving dishes.

There is a pantry with slate tops housing a fridge / freezer and microwave.

The utility room has a washing machine, tumble drier, drinks fridge and door to the garden.

There are two downstairs cloakrooms. One with a loo and the other with a loo, wash hand basin and shower together with a collection of good life jackets - perfect for days out crabbing. There is also a dressing up chest and a collection of children's toys.

Upstairs there are six bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom is just fabulous. It is an enormous bedroom with a super king bed and amazing views, en-suite bathroom with loo, wash hand basin and bath with hand-held shower. Three further bedrooms all have wash basins. One has twin beds and two have double beds. There are two other rooms. One with a double bed and one family room with three single beds.

There are two bathrooms; one with bath and shower, the other a walk-in power shower and underfloor heating.

Outside the terrace runs the length of the house with garden furniture, table tennis and a barbecue. There are steps down to the large landing stage and waters edge at high tide. We advise that children should not go unaccompanied or without lifejackets.

Please note there is a flat above Tan y Coed, which is permanently occupied. They have their own entrance and have no access to the garden or beach.

Tan y Coed is a glorious holiday house with a shabby chic charm and staggering sea views from every window. This is just the house to enjoy gathering with friends and family to celebrate a special occasion. The house has been in the same family for forty years and is comfortably furnished with children and family holidays in mind.

Please note that dogs must be kept downstairs during your stay.

This delightful town sits right on the edge of the Isle of Anglesey and is home to one of two bridges to mainland Wales. It is an ideal base for a holiday and is great for exploring this beautiful island. It has a strong history which can be discovered in the Menai Bridge Heritage Museum, the well known Saint Tysilio lived on Church Island, just off of Anglesey in the 9th century, hence the name of the 14th century St. Tysilio's Church. Menai Bridge itself offers a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. In terms of entertainment, this is an ideal spot with something for everybody, there is the butterfly palace 'Pili Palas' which is incredibly popular with families, as well as the astounding Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens well worth a walk around. The Snowdonia National Park is within driving distance for you outdoor enthusiasts, it has wonderful walking, cycling and opportunities to see some beautiful sights. Nearer to the town, there are some incredible places including the popular towns of Beaumaris and Caernarfon with their majestic castles and much more to do.

Could not believe the size of the property. Master Bedroom was amazing like your staying in your own Stately home. Loved the homely feel with photographs all around, and furniture in kept with the age of the property. Some tired areas, en-suite in master bedroom is old and the heating does not work so was unusable. There were other bathrooms and showers to use which had already been modernised so I would imagine the en-suite would be next. Could do with a deep clean in some rooms, and perhaps lick of paint on doors to freshen up surroundings. Would not want to modernise this place as the character and charm makes it unique that’s what we loved about it. For all you ghost hunters, one of our party felt a presence and from her description seemed pretty well matched with a person who had lived there! Thank you too Lucy who was so helpful with all her extra info. Thank you for making my 50th birthday so memorable The Mellor Family, Horton Family, Aunties, Uncles and Nieces.

Tan Y Coed is a delightful big house in a beautiful location on the Menai Strait. Even in the wind and driving rain of this winter, we were warm and comfortable and together for Christmas. We were able to admire the amazing view across to Bangor and (sometimes, when the cloud lifted) Snowdonia. The house has been well used and well loved by its owners, with great character. It felt like staying in a family's holiday house, I think because it still is that. The house is not modern, and one should not expect today's new build standards, but it had everything ten people needed and there is evidence of gradual modernisation done well - some replacement windows, updated bathrooms, a new oven/hob/range. We were very comfortable, with ample space to celebrate Christmas across the big (red) reception room and a smaller (blue) snug, as well as the billiards room, of course. There was even a Christmas tree and tinsel available, which helped to lift our spirits in front of the wood burner. The kitchen/diner easily facilitated a festive feast and seated ten or twelve satisfactorily. (We decided converting the snooker table would be just too big.) We can imagine the spectacular location in the summer, with blue sky, a barbecue on the terrace and watersports below, and we would return without hesitation for the right gathering. Other notes: One TV, how refreshing to not have screens everywhere! Ample wifi. Games available for all ages. Supplies readily available very locally; bigger shops in Bangor not much further. Crabs readily catchable from the pier in Beaumaris using borrowed lines and nets, even in December, to the delight of youngsters.
