Guests say

Cabbage Patch is a charming and cosy cottage praised for its superb location and cleanliness. Guests have enjoyed the property's proximity to the beach and local pub, as well as the welcoming touches such as a log burner and welcome snacks. While some guests have noted areas for improvement, the overall sentiment is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

The majority of guests found the cottage to be very clean, with particular praise for the cleanliness upon arrival. However, a few reviews mentioned issues with dust, cobwebs, and general wear, which suggests room for improvement in this area.

The location is highly commended by guests for its tranquillity, stunning views, and proximity to the beach and coastal paths. The local pub's closeness adds to the appeal, making the location almost universally appreciated.

Guests have found the beds extremely comfy and the cottage cosy, especially with the woodburner. However, some guests mentioned that the living room furniture and mattress could be more comfortable, indicating that comfort levels may vary.

The cottage is well-equipped according to several reviews, but there are multiple mentions of maintenance issues such as problems with the shower, hob, and garden furniture. These recurring themes suggest that while facilities are adequate, there is a need for attention and updates.

Many guests felt well-cared for with welcome treats and a well-equipped kitchen, contributing to a thoughtful experience. However, as these gifts are subject to change and not guaranteed, they should be considered a delightful bonus rather than an expectation.

Located on Holy Island, three miles from Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn is a small village with a church and primary school and is the most southerly place on Holy Island. Rhoscolyn also offers an excellent pub on the lane down to the beach, which is renowned for its gastro food, and the beach itself with its slipway, ideal for small dinghies and power boats, is a popular family destination throughout the summer owing to the sheltered cove and gently sloping sands. Also excellent cliff-top walks can be enjoyed and an abundance of wildlife can be seen, often including seals on the headland. Just two miles away is the village of Valley, which has a Post Office, chemist, shops and eating places, plus the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay is situated on the western shore of the island and is truly beautiful with a great sweep of low grassy coastline indented with rocky coves and fine Blue Flag sandy beaches. There are shops, pubs and restaurants in Trearddur Bay itself and nearby Holyhead offers a wider range of amenities, including a very good leisure centre, supermarkets, harbour front, a marina, the world’s second longest breakwater and exciting day trips to Dublin on the ferry. Watersports, bathing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding are the main activities in the summer months, plus golfers will enjoy the excellent Holyhead 18 hole links golf course, and the area is also a great place for nature lovers with renowned birdwatching at the South Stack Lighthouse rspb Reserve. An excellent location with plenty to see and do!

But I do think the departure time of 9 o'clock is far to early and needs to be reviewed, it detracts from a lovely stay.

It's a great location and was once a quirky find but the maintenance has declined over the years and its more shabby than chic. The bathroom door had swelled in the damp (obviously a long standing problem as there was black mould on the ceiling) and wouldn't close. Its right by the bedhead so wasn't exactly conducive to privacy. We noticed it had been hastily planed but obviously not properly sorted. The shower control was missing as it had been when we visited in April. The sofa and chair were stained and grubby. We contacted the letting company about these obvious long term issues - it's clear from other reviews and the visitor book that it's gone downhill, but they basically blamed us for not wanting workmen round - errr, it's our holiday guys! You have 7 hours between each let to solve it & you know what's wrong. If I wanted workmen trooping in I could have stayed at home! Its a real shame the owners can't forgo a weeks letting fees to address the problems in what was once a lovely little place. It was absolutely not worth £500+ and the company couldn't even offer the courtesy of a discount or a voucher. They've lost our long standing custom as a result.

Some mention in reviews of nocturnal noises, it's not mice but twigs from trees too close to the windows. I'd definitely recommend investing in a decent mattress and new chair and sofa. Not only do the existing ones look shabby, they are rather uncomfortable. The main picture in the listing is not Cabbage Patch but part of the neighbouring property. I mention this because it gives the impression of lots of light in the apartment. This is so for the lounge but there is very little natural light in the bedroom. Great if you like a pitch black bedroom but if you're claustrophobic like me and a light sleeper it's a bit of a problem. On the plus side, it was immaculately clean, full of character and the secure garden was an added bonus.
