Wheelwright Barn offers spacious living throughout and has been finished to a high standard with excellent levels of comfort. The large, split-level, open plan living/dining room/kitchen has retained all of the original character, complete with beams and the original, Victorian line shaft with cast iron drive wheels within the magnificent vaulted ceilings. The blend of contemporary design and traditional materials used in creating the kitchen, particularly the slate flooring and the original slate salting slab, really sets this kitchen apart. From the kitchen you can enjoy those amazing views and soak in the private, hydrotherapy Jacuzzi hot tub before snuggling down to a cosy night around the wood burner. Every bedroom has unique en-suite facilities, with the master bedroom offering luxurious comfort with a four poster kingsize bed and whirlpool bath. There is also a large private outdoor swimming pool located between the patio and the Orchard, within the grounds.
A 20-minute stroll and you are in the square of the seaside village of Ferryside, which was originally a ferry crossing on the Pilgrim’s Road to Llansteffan. Ferryside was once the heart of the Welsh cockling industry and still has a good number of locals harvesting these tasty shellfish. The village boasts a pub with local ales and live music, a small general store, Post Office, railway station and a fantastic beach to explore with your family, build sandcastles, explore rock pools or relax and take in the views.
A couple of miles over the hill, the ancient town of Kidwelly is really worth a visit. Here you will find the historic Kidwelly Castle, teaming with history and one of the finest preserved Norman castles in Wales. Travelling east along the coastline, Pembrey Country Park boasts 500 acres to discover and ramble, with its extensive woodland, dry ski slope, toboggan run and miles of golden sandy beach, ideal for all ages. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
Wheelwright Barn can be booked together with The Coach House (ref UK33121) and Bronyn Cottage (ref UK11012) to accommodate up to 18 guests.

We were a family of 6 adults and two children. Communication from the owners was well timed and very useful. For example, we agreed 2 double bedrooms and two twin. The latter would be unzipped and and made up. Great. Also the detailed driving directions made our inaugural visit very easy. The barn is spacious, well furnished with lots of additional 'extras.' The hot tub is a real Jacuzzi! Large, bubbly excellent temperature control. The star fixture proved to a grand swimming pool! Indeed the extensive outdoor space offered everything. The children made a 'fairy glen' that will never be forgotten. I have no hesitation in recommending this exemplary holiday stay which in future, would be hard to beat. That said, we will be back. It will exceed your expectations. It did ours and that speaks volumes. Top rate.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Wheelwright Barn. Keith & Lesley are superb hosts, they have thought of everything that their guests might need. The space is perfect, with 4 good size rooms each with their own bathroom. The kitchen was very well equipped and instructions for appliances/bins/the pool were all sent well in advance and were very clear. Ferryside itself is close by but limited in amenities beyond a pub, shop and one coffee shop. This didn't bother us at all however, as we took a stroll to the beach close to the barn a few times and found plenty of places to visit within 20 minutes drive (Carmarthen, Burry Port and the Parc Y Bocs farm shop in particular). As mentioned, Keith and Lesley are wonderful hosts. Not at all imposing, and yet readily on hand when we needed a few more recycling bags and a spot of help with the WiFi midweek. They also helped me sort out a last minute birthday gift delivery for one of our party and could not have been more supportive and gracious about it.

Keith and Lesley gave us a very warm and friendly welcome and communication throughout was excellent. They are accessible at all times but allow you privacy. The house was ideal for our family of 8 which included 6 adults and a 5 and 3 year old and all our needs were catered for. The 4 bedrooms were all lovely and having an ensuite each was ideal. The hot tub was amazing and well used and the swimming pool was a godsend given the high temperatures last week. There was plenty to see and do in the area and not too far to get to the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast which is a family favourite. We would definitely recommend this cottage.
