We booked Derwen Haidd expecting a luxury property, as it was advertised at the time of booking. Unfortunately, the property did not live up to that description.During our stay we experienced a number of maintenance and presentation issues, including problems with the en-suite, an unpleasant smell from the shower, a faulty towel rail and shower fittings, a damaged dining chair, issues around the stair gate and front door, and various other things that we would not expect from accommodation advertised as luxury.The hot tub was particularly disappointing. The lid could not be opened properly because of the position of a downpipe, the water was not as we expected, and we were told to add chlorine tablets ourselves. We have stayed in many holiday properties with hot tubs and have never previously been expected to manage the chemical treatment ourselves. It certainly didn’t feel like a luxury facility.We contacted the owners during our stay and raised our concerns. While some matters were acknowledged, this did not change our experience or the fact that we had paid for and expected a higher standard of accommodation.Following our complaint, we were informed that a number of the issues are now going to be repaired or replaced, and that the property has subsequently had its luxury classification removed. We appreciate that the owners are now addressing some of the problems, but unfortunately this was not the standard of property we booked or experienced during our holiday.The house itself is large and spacious and has potential, but in our opinion it needs considerable attention and maintenance to meet the standard we were led to expect.We would recommend checking the current description and recent reviews carefully before booking.

Derwen Haidd is an excellent very comfortable house with plenty of room.Everyone enjoyed using the games room practising their pool and table tennis and realising exactly how hard it is to get a treble 20!It is only 20 mins from Aberyswyth so easy to pop over there for a meal or takeaway - I recommend Arabian Flavours and Aber Fish & Chips for these but there are plenty of others.There are some nice walks around the area - I enjoyed the one up to the ridge behind the house.It's in a Dark Sky area but we only had two partially clear nights so I just relaxed in the Hot Tub at 1am with the lights off and looked up at the bright stars.

It is a fantastic holiday home and we had a brilliant stay! The house is spacious with everything you could need. The location means you have to get in the car for anything but this didn't bother us as we like to get out and about and explore. The games room was an added bonus also.
