Maesbangor Farmhouse is a spacious property ideal for large groups, offering multiple kitchens, ample dining space, and a hot tub. Its rural setting near Aberystwyth provides a peaceful retreat with beautiful views, though some guests noted maintenance and cleanliness issues.
While bedding and towels were described as new, fresh, and clean, several reviews mentioned the need for a deep clean, with reports of black mould, grimy walls, and general untidiness. These issues suggest that cleanliness could be significantly improved.
The property's rural location is appreciated for its tranquillity and scenic views, with Aberystwyth and local amenities a short drive away. The peaceful setting and proximity to attractions contribute to a high score for location.
Guests praised the property's space and potential for comfort, with enough room for large groups and comfortable bedding. However, intermittent heating issues and some unpleasant fumes from the boiler affected the comfort level for some guests.
The property is well-equipped with two kitchens, washing machines, and a hot tub, suitable for large groups. However, maintenance issues such as a non-functional hot tub, broken fixtures, and heating problems detract from the overall facilities score.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches provided by the host that would indicate thoughtfulness. Therefore, this category cannot be scored, and guests should not expect gifts as part of their stay.
Families and groups of friends will love this spacious property, within easy reach of Aberystwyth and the coast..

Previously two homes, but now combined into one, this spacious semi-detached house offers seven bedrooms sleeping up to 14 guests.
The imposing front of the house looks across the valley, and the front garden even boasts a hot tub where you can relax and take in the view. As you enter inside you will appreciate how ideal the farmhouse is for families or friends who want that extra space, or perhaps a quiet corner. I stayed over Christmas with family and friends. We were greeted by the owner on arrival at check-in at 3pm and everything was ready. The house is big, certainly big enough for the 12 of us. The living room is large enough to seat 10 and has a log fire and TV. The large dining room can accommodate 14 so was plenty big enough for all of us to eat together. The other dining room seats 6 but we used that as a quiet room to get away for a little while. The conservatory is good for that as well.We were thankful for the two kitchens as it meant we had two ovens to cook Christmas dinner and two dishwashers to clean it all up afterwards. The house is tidy but could do with a deep clean. The hinges for the door for the built-in washing machine were damaged so it hung off when opened. Fumes from the oil fired boiler seeped into the two bedrooms above which were unpleasant so we stuck toilet paper in the holes in the floor that the water pipes came through which solved it after a day.We all used the hot tub which was a nice 40 degrees in the chilly weather although it could have done with a clean, there was some dirt in the bottom which I presume was from previous occupants feet walking to it.The house is located in a lovely area just outside Aberystwyth which is about a 15 minute drive into the centre but there is a Morrisons supermarket about 10 minutes drive as you enter the town. If you are into the outdoors then there are mountain bike trails and walking trails nearby including, of course, the coastal path at Aberystwyth. Two of us have EVs and, although the house doesn't have any charging facility (something I think the owners should consider installing), there are high speed chargers just across the road from Morrisons, 6 Tesla (open to other makes) and 2 at McDonalds, and also 2 50kW chargers at Morrisons, so no problem getting a charge.I would recommend Maesbangor Farmhouse for a large group as it has plenty of space and you are not under each other's feet.

13 of us stayed comfortably for a big birthday celebration, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The house is well equipped to cater for a large group &, there were enough areas if we wanted to sit quietly for a while. We can't fault anything, our host was lovely, we will definetly book again for a family get together. Highly recommend, it more than exceeded our expectations. Thank you Nia

We absolutely LOVED this house and the space it offers which very comfortably accommodates large groups of family and friends. It’s like two separate dwellings connected through the central lounge which makes it perfect for two sharing families. It’s very nicely structured. Bedding and towels all provided, were new, fresh and clean and the house is very well laid out and resourced for most needs, including two washing machines, two ovens, Hobs and fridges. It has everything a large group needs for a base to explore. We loved the huge dining room where we ‘banqueted’ every evening together. The host was very attentive and a lovely lady running a series of holiday lets in this complex. There were no local amenities in the area but the town is a short car ride away and we found some great attractions and walks and had good tips from the host on activities to do. We also had no issues getting a grocery delivery from Tesco. We would definitely recommend the property to others, and indeed willingly stay again ourselves, but we especially note there are some clearly discounting factors that do not get flagged in the sales pitch… 1. there is a permanently occupied (attached but unconnected) annex on the farmhouse with a full-time male resident. Effectively the farmhouse is semi-detached. The tenant was quiet and unobtrusive but we did feel this compromised our privacy. We didn’t know who we were sharing the secluded spot with and the hot-tub was outside/beyond the annex.2. The hot-tub itself was unusable. A minor point being that it’s in the wrong location but the big issue being that it cannot rise above a cool 36 degrees. The current cover is so old, degraded and water logged that it no longer acts as a thermal insulator and heat just escapes through the lid. We tried the hottub over several days but found it too unpleasantly cool to enjoy so it was a lost (and very much missed) feature. A new cover is an absolute must. 3. The house runs on two separate heating systems (one with clearly ongoing issues). One side of the house kept losing heat and hot water so 3 bedrooms were intermittently cold with no washing facilities for half our stay. The host was very quick to respond, sending an engineer the same day but the system clearly needs an updating and this repeatedly impacted our stay. Our lasting impression of Maesbanger Farmhouse is that the overall standards at the house do not meet those we expect of a holiday let property. We travel as a large family group for one week every year and have done so for nearly 30 years. We unanimously loved the size, space and potential of this property but it is in so much need of a thorough deep clean, not the standard floors and surfaces that get tickled every week, the other stuff… and it is crying out for some significant maintenance and basic renewal. It needs money spent on it.To illustrate- Black mould was extensively seen around windows and ceilings. Grimy walls need scrubbing and/or repainting, peeling paint throughout on doors, windows, walls, ceilings and panelling. Water ingress and damp damage throughout (managed locally with dehumidifier tubs), structural cracks, thick grime around shower base and mounts, rusting fixtures, broken showers, lightbulbs out, tired/torn/split furniture. Seals gone on log burner doors, combustion fumes from boiler filtering into bedrooms above. Loose floor tiles, kitchen cabinets doors hanging off, broken freezer drawers, toilets that won’t flush, outside areas grubby and in poor repair full with weeds. The whole place needs some love and money spent on it. But - in spite of all those shortcomings. we would still recommend for a family group.
