Woodside Cottage sleeping up to 6 guests

This delightful property nestles in the picturesque countryside with a cosy wood burner and fantastic views across the hills.
Within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this lovely, detached cottage is hidden away on the Kymin, a part National Trust and part Woodland Trust owned hill that rises steeply above the River Wye and overlooks the pretty and historic town of Monmouth.
The cottage faces due west and offers incredible views over the Vale of Monmouth, glimpses of the Wye and the Monnow with a backdrop of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons. From the veranda you can enjoy dramatic sunsets in the summer months and all year round there are amazing skyscapes providing a perfect setting for relaxing amidst birds and wildlife. In colder months the view can be enjoyed from the living room with a cosy wood burner crackling away.
S96937 backs onto Offa’s Dyke path and is a short walk from the 18th century Round House (National Trust) and Lady Park Wood National Nature Reserve. The Forest of Dean is in one direction, the Wye Valley and Symonds Yat in the other and the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park are in easy reach in another. The cottage is a perfect base for walking, cycling (mountain biking is popular in the area) and for river activities.
Monmouth, the birth place of Henry V (of Agincourt fame) and the seat of the Rolls family is just 2 miles away. Monmouth is an unspoiled medieval market town and offers restaurants, shops, pubs, river walks and the famous Monnow Bridge with its surviving medieval gated tower. There are two museums, one devoted to original Nelson memorabilia, the other in the Castle and Monmouthshire Regiment Museum. The town hosts a free music festival in July/August each year, a river festival and various agricultural and other shows. The famous Rockfield studios are just outside the town, on the way to the historic Rolls of Monmouth golf course.
Places to visit within 10 miles include the beautiful and romantic ruin of Tintern Abbey, the Norman castles at White Castle, Skenfrith and Grosmont as well as Raglan Castle, which dates back to the 1430s and Goodrich Castle near Symonds Yat. Abergavenny, with its own castle is another pretty market town, 17 miles from Monmouth, which hosts a world famous annual food festival in September. Whether you crave history and culture, outdoor activities or simply doing nothing in beautiful surroundings, S96937 is an ideal spot. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

"Owner very helpful .Nice view ."
    Julia – 5 Nov 2018
"Would have liked to have had bettter cutlery and kitchen equipment, for example there were no steak knives or plastic dishes for children. However it was in a beautiful location with outstanding views from the cottage and nice walks nearby. The cottage was very clean and spacious."
    Stuart – 16 Oct 2018
"The cottage is located in the side of Kymin hill providing an excellent view of Monmouth in the valley below. Access to the cottage is via a single track road which is a sharp left turn off the road up Kymin. Unfortunately the bad weather meant we were unable to explore the area but there is good access to local footpaths and trails. The cottage itself is well furnished and recently decorated. Bedrooms have plenty of storage and beds are comfortable. The shower is excellent. One thing is that whilst the WiFi was very good and we were able to watch Netflix, we would have liked there to be a DVD player on the main TV.Would go back. Excellent value for money."
    Jacquie – 5 Oct 2018
"Very pleasant and well appointed house that was spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a homely stay. The views were incredible. A bit far to walk from town and narrow lane access but fantastic once you get there. Also great owner to deal with"
    Stephen – 22 Sep 2018
"Lovely cottage in a great location. Nice and cosy with good amenities, but could really do with a coffee table as we noticed some hot mug rings on the leather sofa arms! Nevertheless, a most enjoyable stay even though I’d broke my ankle 3 weeks previously, and I was a bit worried about the steps from the car parking area, but there were 1 set that were quite steep, but the other was shallow and gravelled, so I managed ok.Comfortable beds, and well equipped kitchen, nice bathrooms, all in all a great stay in a very pretty part of the UK"
    Dorothy – 16 Sep 2018
"This cottage and views was excellent but was not dog friendly, the only place we could let Maggie out was through the utility room (but dogs are not allowed downstairs) the balcony off the kitchen has artificial grass so she wouldn't use that. To get to and from property was not easy."
    Pui – 5 Sep 2018
"Well equipped and clean cottage to stay for a weekend.Lovely view from terrace.Location is quite tricky to find in the dark, would recommend to go in the day.Beautiful and relaxing cottage, would like to stay again."
    Colin – 6 Aug 2018
"We really enjoyed our stay at Woodside on the Kymin, for us it was a late booking and great it was available. The Cottage was easy enough to find, and while the drive up is steep and a bit of reversing is required to get you round the corners, it was accessible enough, wouldn't recommend taking wide or long vehicles though - as highlighted in the instructions. There are 4 bedrooms, all nicely decorated, lots of wood and white paint to give the cottage feeling, the beds (and i can't stress this enough) were very comfortable, not the usual holiday let variety of wire springs poking through thin padding! The bathrooms are great, good hot showers. The Kitchen dinner (which along with the lounge and veranda) is upstairs, and is well equiped and clean. The Veranda offers great views out over Monmouth and even as far the Sugarloaf near Abergavenny. We had one problem with the shower not turning off and dripping continually, i emailed the owner - Anwen, and she organised a plumber who turned up almost immediately! how good is that?!There are some lovely walks up to the NT Round House and there are woods to walk round with bits of Offa's dike path, you can walk into Monmouth down a footpath leading off the road up the Kymon, but we found it over grown and steep, on the return we choose to use the bridleway that comes out near the NT Roundhouse - a very pleasant if hilly walk. We also cycled down into Monmouth and the Forest of Dean, the main road (the short bit you are on) is busy and does have lots of heavy traffic on it - must be a quarry close by so we choose to return via the back of the Kymin, there are loads of forest fire roads to use so you can pretty much avoid the main road. All in all a great holiday cottage with loads to recommend it and the surrounding area."
    Linda – 14 Jul 2018
"Fantastic views great cottage only downside was garden not secure for dogs"
    Kate – 19 Jun 2018
"The cottage was ideal for a weekend catch-up with friends. The view from the balcony was fabulous, an ideal place for pre-dinner drinks and watching the sun set. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable, a great place to stay"
    Peter – 8 Jun 2018
"Delightful cottage in beautiful setting. Slept 6 adults comfortably. Very well equipped. Excellent communication and information fom owner. Would love to return"
    Charlotte – 15 May 2018
"S96937 was in an amazing location, with Monmouth only a short walk away, but with the rural location making you feel that you were at a retreat. The cottage had everything you would require, with lovely features, however best of all were the stunning views. Much time was spent on the terrace watching the wonderful wildlife and taking in the views of Monmouth (which was a lovely town to visit). Will definitely return!"
    Jenny – 9 Apr 2018
"Lovely property , very warm and comfortable and the views are stunning. The owners were extremely helpful giving us details of local events and there are lovely walks from the cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay over the Easter Bank Holiday."
