About this property

Newport 1.8 miles, Cardigan 10 miles. Resting in the small parish of Nevern, on the outskirts of the coastal town of Newport in Pembrokeshire, is this charming stone-front bungalow, Gorwelfa. All-ground-floor and sleeping up to eight guests, Gorwelfa is a delightful setting for a family getaway, enjoying views of Carningli Mountain and Newport Bay. Arriving at Gorwelfa, you will find plenty of parking available on the ample grounds, before stepping into the property to begin your holiday. Be welcomed into the generous kitchen/diner, where you can look forward to impressing your guests with your culinary skills, settling down to enjoy your meal around the farmhouse style dining table.

Just off the kitchen you will find a utility room with a handy washing machine, perfect for putting sandy clothes on a spin after a day at the beach. Look forward to relaxing in one of two sitting rooms, where you can cosy up and escape with your favourite book or enjoy a glass of wine in front of your favourite film on the TV. Shower off sandy toes in the shower room or opt for a soothing soak in the contemporary bathroom before bed. As your eyes grow heavy, retire to one of four beautifully decorated bedrooms to catch your rest, a king-size, a double, a twin and a bunk, all with exceptional views of the surrounding countryside or the sea.

Sip your morning coffee at the lovely picnic table, soaking up the stunning scenery which surrounds you. Familiarise yourself with your local surroundings, with your first stop being Nevern, where you will find Nevern Castle, an archaeologically important historical site with the ruins of the former motte and bailey castle, with informative boards and delightful scenic spots where you can enjoy a picnic with loved ones. Nearby also is the stunning Pentre Ifan Neolithic burial chamber - one of the picture postcard images of West Wales. Explore the neighbouring town of Newport, popular with tourists for its gloriously sandy beach and excellent nearby golf club with stunning sea views.

Delve into history with a visit to the Carreg Coetan Arthur Burial Chamber, a Cadw Heritage site, which has a Neolithic chambered tomb dating back to the New Stone Age. Take a leisurely stroll through the River Nevern Wildfowl Conservation Area, where you can spot local wildlife, explore various paths and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. If you’re looking to explore a little further, head to the coastal town of Fishguard to view the Last Invasion Tapestry, denoting the last invasion of mainland Britain in 1797 and take a trip to the Ocean Lab in Goodwick, home to a selection of sea creatures from the local area and a wealth of information on marine conservation.

Further west is the city of St Davids with its magnificent cathedral. For a truly memorable holiday in the west of Wales, choose Gorwelfa.

Set on the River Nevern in South West Wales is the picturesque coastal town of Newport, home to the glorious sands of Newport Beach with beautiful views and nearby Wildlife Conservation area. In the town you will find delightful tea rooms where you can indulge in a slice of cake and pot of tea after a long walk along the coast, a selection of well-stocked shops, pubs and a fantastic golf course with sea views.

The host was friendly and helpful. Accommodation was good but would benefit from some upgrading. Later check in times are unacceptable to older guests particularly during the winter season. Emails from Sykes are officious and unwelcoming rather than helpful.

Only tiny complaint was the boiler pressure in the shower meant if you use the small shower head the water sprays intermittently (problem if you've got long hair!) and we only realised to use the big shower head on the last day

The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped for home cooking. A magical spot.
