Guests say

The Granary in South Wales & Pembrokeshire offers a well-equipped, comfortable stay with a beautiful location and a friendly host. It boasts a lovely outdoor play area and is well-placed for exploring local beaches. Some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, but these were not universal experiences.

Reviews are mixed regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property to be dirty and in need of a deep clean, while others did not raise cleanliness as an issue. This suggests that experiences can vary, possibly depending on the time of visit or management's response to feedback.

The location is consistently praised for its beauty and convenience for exploring nearby beaches and towns. Guests appreciate the rural setting and proximity to local attractions, making it an ideal base for holidaymakers looking to enjoy the Pembrokeshire area.

Most guests found the cottage comfortable, well-equipped, and cosy, with a few noting issues with hot water and heating. The presence of a log burner and the property's layout contributed positively to guests' comfort.

Facilities like the play area and outdoor spaces are highlights, though some guests reported maintenance issues such as leaks and clogged drains. The presence of a gym and play equipment is mentioned positively, but there were comments about the gym not being accessible and play equipment not matching the photos.

There is insufficient information in the reviews to assess the level of thoughtfulness in terms of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

About this property

Built over 150 years ago, this beautiful stone barn conversion was originally the farm's granary. Now it is a comfortable 'up-side-down' holiday home with all modern comforts. Many of the original features still remain such as the massive exterior stone steps, the vaulted beamed ceilings and mellow stone walls, which give the property character. Quiet country lanes lead to the barn, which is just a few minutes' drive from the Pembrokeshire coast path and excellent beaches at Newport, Poppit and Ceibwr. The coastal town of Newport and market town of Cardigan are each a few minutes drive and offer a host of galleries, studios, shops, eateries and pubs. Guests are welcome to enjoy the freedom of the farmland and woodland walks surrounding The Granary. There is also a gym and you can even bring your horse on holiday - the country lanes and beaches near to this property are perfect for horse riding. If you would like to bring your horse/s on holiday, stabling is offered at an extra charge, please ask for more details. All guests have free access to the sunflower and pumpkin farm when they are in season.

Newport is a beautiful coastal town in Pembrokeshire, south west Wales lying on the River Nevern with a selection of shops, pubs, tea rooms, plus an excellent golf course overlooking the sea as well as a lovely sheltered harbour. Newport lies on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path which is renowned worldwide for its unique landscape and wonderful opportunities to go dolphin and seal spotting. Wonderful coastal walks along the path or in the nearby Preseli Hills with the ever changing scenery are a walkers dream all year round. Learn about history when you visit the mills, craft centres and castles dotted around the county or spend a day at the wonderful Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort where you can learn hands on all about living during that time. See the majestic Shire Horses at the Shire Horse Farm or spend relaxing days on the huge choice of beautiful sandy beaches. All year round this is a perfect location for all the family.

OK it's a barn conversion and perhaps we should have realised but that isn't how it is portrayed. We couldn't get enough hot water to run to enable us to fill a bath. There was a dishwasher but no tablets and it was not made clear we needed to supply these ourselves. We were requested to leave to place clean but there were no cleaning products to enable us to do this, and certainly not to the standard we would have liked. Leaving only 2 toilet rolls did seem a little mean.

However, the walls of the downstairs bedrooms were damp, they smelt damp and carpets were damp. There were also very large beetles everywhere on ground floor. Overall the accommodation wasn’t particularly clean and everywhere had the air of being tired and requiring a little TLC (curtains missing rings, downstairs bathroom broken box under sink, window catches)

We love the large garden and play area - just right for a very active 7 year old. Hugh, our host, was always on hand for any problems and always did his best to sort out swiftly ( despite being in the middle of harvest). We had fantastic weather so trips to Mwnt beach and Poppet Sands very popular and not far to travel. We will definitely be returning again.
