I spent 4 nights at The Cottage with a group of friends for my 50th birthday and had a really lovely time. Some additional family members joined us for one of the afternoons. The kitchen, dining and living room areas were plenty spacious enough for us all. The BBQ (which I don’t remember seeing mentioned on the website?) came with some charcoal, though definitely bring extra if you’re feeding a big group!. The owner, Mike, was very friendly and was kind enough to drop off a bottle of Prosecco, some Welsh cakes and flowers when we arrived! The hot tub seemed a bit heavy on the chlorine at first, but was fine on the second night and was a very welcome addition. Whilst basic and in less than perfect condition, the pool table provided a great deal of fun for us all. The area is beautiful. It’s lovely being amidst the rolling hills of Wales and Shropshire. Whilst Montgomery is a small town with only a small-ish shop, nearby Welshpool (10-15 minute drive) has a large supermarket. My only really gripe is that there were quite a lot of flies in the kitchen. It’s probably a bad time of year for them and probably made worse due to the recent hot spells. There was no indication that this was due to any sort of a lack of cleanliness and the owners have taken various measures to mitigate this. All said, if I was staying in this area again with a group of friends, this would be a great place to come back to.

Just back from a lovely week celebrating my wife’s 50th birthday, with the family and had a fabulous time. Very spacious, clean and plenty to keep us amused, playing pool and darts and enjoying the hot tub. Located in a gorgeous village, with excellent local walks and nice cafes.

We had a lovely time and made the best of it as the house is situated in a beautiful spot with two pubs in walking distance as well as the castle ruins. However, the accommodation itself could be so much more as it is currently looking a little unloved. A new dart board with lighting would be good and some of the utensils/appliances need a little attention as mentioned in previous reviews. Cleaning definitely needs to be improved as the whole house was quite dusty/cobwebs and there was also lots of dog hair which set my son’s chest off. We couldn’t use the hot tub on the first evening which was disappointing when only there for the two nights. We were there as two families with teenage children so still had a great time, just a shame it’s not as good as it could be with a little more attention to detail.
