Surrounded by the picturesque Shropshire Hills on the edge of Churchstoke, a sleepy village on the English/Welsh border, is this delightful detached cottage, Ty Derw. A hidden treasure set in large gardens, with some of the most magnificent countryside views, use Ty Derw as a welcoming base for you and your loved ones. The open-plan living area exudes quality and style, boasting oak flooring and a warming woodburning stove, which is ideal for relaxing in front of whilst watching your favourite film. Allow the chef amongst the group to prepare a sumptuous feast in the kitchen, before gathering round the large dining table to enjoy it.
The first floor has four sumptuous bedrooms including three doubles and a single room, with two of the doubles benefitting from en-suite shower rooms, and a family bathroom with a bath and walk-in shower. The master bedroom also has a lovely balcony where you can really admire the picturesque surroundings. At the rear is a lawned garden for family games and a decking with furniture and private hot tub, so you can enjoy a soothing soak after a tiring day of exploring. Local amenities are just a short walk away in the village of Churchstoke, and include a supermarket, hairdressers, two pubs, a Chinese takeaway, tennis courts and a historic church.
There are plenty of walks from the doorstep of this wonderful cottage, with Roundton Nature reserve within walking distance, and the Offa’s Dyke Path, Kerry Ridgeway, and the Shropshire Way, all close by! If you want to round off a day of walking with a rustic meal, just 2 miles away into the hills of Priest Weston, you can walk to Mitchell’s Fold Stone Circle and call in at The Miner’s Arms where they make delicious pizzas in a traditional pizza oven on Wednesday evenings. Around a mile outside of Churchstoke you can buy home-made ice cream at a Farm Shop and there is also a vineyard with a café and shop for a few more culinary treats to follow your wine-tasting while the children enjoy the ice cream.
Montgomery is 4 miles away and is home to a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants to try, whilst Bishop’s Castle, Welshpool, Shrewsbury and Ludlow are all further afield but within short driving distance. Why not consider visiting Powis Castle, a 13th Century medieval castle rising dramatically above its celebrated garden, and take a tour through its beautiful Italianate garden terraces and fairy tale rooms that house the treasures of Clive of India. Churchstoke is a historic village, which borders Old Church Stoke, in Powys, Wales, and is situated near the River Camlad. The little village offers two local pubs, a shopping centre and a bowling club, with a weekly market held on Sunday’s. Churchstoke has easy access to many neighbouring towns and villages, all offering many amenities and historic sights.
