This charming community, located approximately 7 miles to the northwest of Welshpool, also includes tennis courts (day passes are reasonably priced at the village store), its own football and rugby teams, and a historic church where two former princes of Powys are rumoured to be buried. Purchasing fishing licences for the Rivers Vyrnwy and Banwy is also possible at the village store. Both locations have scientific value. Five of North Wales' top mountain biking locations are all within an hour's drive of Gwyndu Cottage. One of the tiniest towns in Powys is close by and located in the Banwy valley of historic Montgomeryshire. The steam Welshpool to Llanfair Light Railway is just a short stroll from the town center's hilly streets across the Banwy Bridge. A vibrant market town called Welshpool is located 4 miles from the Welsh/English border in the Severn Valley. A renovated cockfighting pit, an intriguing History Trail, and a delightful mix of shops, fine pubs, and restaurants are all there. See the renowned Powis castle from the 13th century or take a sail down the Montgomery canal. Here, you can have a wonderful afternoon. You can admire the Georgian architecture while having a leisurely stroll through the town. Good use was made of the lake with swimming and fishing (a few small ones caught and released!), and of course the hot tub. The view from the terrace is lovely and it's in full sun for the afternoon/evening. The lake and grounds surrounding the house are enclosed and completely private. Good quality beds and bed linen and a well equipped kitchen. Plenty of bathrooms over the 3 floors (we had one floor per family, which worked really well. Everyone could be seated comfortably around the dining table and there was room outside too. Extra parking in the village car park was easy and no problem. Things that we found to do are: 1. walk from the village across the fields and back along the forest track (about 3 miles) - suggested by the owner - really nice 2. walk from the village past the chapel (Ann Griffiths walk) uphill - you can get to the top of the hill and on to the next village (need walking boots). 3. Roomination - Escape rooms - about 7 miles away in Llanfyllin (20 min drive) There is one room, takes up to 6 people - very good. 4. Llanfyllin Workhouse - there is a history centre - this is in the same place as the Escape rooms. 5. Lake Vyrnwy - 25 mins drive. There's a car park(free) at the top end of the lake and a 2 mile easy work to a fantastic waterfall. You can also park at the main car park (charge) and do other walks - the Dam walk, and there's an Artisans cafe where you can buy ice cream. 6. Powis Castle (National Trust). 25 mins drive Lovely day out, but not suitable of the less abled - you walk up from the car park and then down to the gardens. Also consider Chirk Castle (one hours drive) 7. Llanfair light railway - you have to buy a return ticket, which is expensive. It's a good 1/2 mile from the station in Welshpool into the town, and not enough time anyway. There's a pub (the Raven) by the station in Welshpool which is open all day every day. 8. Gregynog Gardens & walks - 30 mins drive - £3 to park and then can do forest walks, but they are not well marked. There's a cafe there as well and a hall (not for visiting). Thank you and we have booked to return next year!

Everything provided that you’d want really apart from bbq. Lake stunning and we swam every morning. Dogs and kids loved it.

We stayed in August as a family party of 11. We were greeted with an array of lovely welcome treats for us all and our dog Bella. The house had everything we needed, what a beautiful place to stay, with lots of room and individual spaces if needed for everyone, we were so lucky with the weather too! The lake was amazing and we did lots fishing and took our inflatable kayak which was great to keep everyone entertained. The wildlife was great, we had squirrels, red kites, buzzards and all kinds of other birds, a resident heron liked to come and visit every morning on the jetty! Sally was on hand if there were any questions or queries. We would all recommend Tan Yr Allt, it's a wonderfully beautiful place! Thank you for everything
