Meifod is a charming tiny stone-built village by the River Vyrnwy that enjoys plenty of sunshine, is surrounded by rolling hills and wooded areas, and has a post office, a local tavern, and a convenience shop. This charming community, located approximately 7 miles to the northwest of Welshpool, also includes tennis courts (day passes are reasonably priced at the village store), its own football and rugby teams, and a historic church where two former princes of Powys are rumoured to be buried. Purchasing fishing licences for the Rivers Vyrnwy and Banwy is also possible at the village store. Within a short drive away are Lake Vyrnwy, home to an rspb reserve, and Pistyll Rhaeader (Llanrhader waterfall), a 240-foot waterfall that cascades in three stages and is regarded as one of Wales' seven natural wonders. Both locations have scientific value. Five of North Wales' top mountain biking locations are all within an hour's drive of Gwyndu Cottage. One of the tiniest towns in Powys is close by and located in the Banwy valley of historic Montgomeryshire. The steam Welshpool to Llanfair Light Railway is just a short stroll from the town center's hilly streets across the Banwy Bridge. A vibrant market town called Welshpool is located 4 miles from the Welsh/English border in the Severn Valley. A renovated cockfighting pit, an intriguing History Trail, and a delightful mix of shops, fine pubs, and restaurants are all there. See the renowned Powis castle from the 13th century or take a sail down the Montgomery canal. Here, you can have a wonderful afternoon. You can admire the Georgian architecture while having a leisurely stroll through the town. A golf club with a privileged location, overlooking the lovely Welsh borderlands, is the ideal place to develop your swing. The country town of Shrewsbury, with its Tudor half-timbered buildings, museums, and great shopping experiences, is located further away. A chance not to be passed up!

The property was well presented and the welcoming package with fish food for the lake was a nice touch. The kitchen is well stocked and a good communal area to spend time. The dining room is perfect for a large group, which leads out onto a spacious veranda where you can sit and enjoy watching the ducks on the lake. The rooms are all equally high specification with superking size beds and en-suite shower rooms. The lounge was large and housed all 11 of us in the evening without an issue. It is a great place for dogs and they enjoyed the grounds and laying on the Jeti in the sunshine. You won’t find many idealistic places for a larger group of friends/family. Would definitely book again for a family gathering etc. The only advice I would give to a guest would be that the nearest shop is a short drive away so maybe best to bring some firelighters and salt and pepper. We all will fondly remember this weekend. Thank you.

Perfectly equipped to provide for an impromptu birthday high tea and enough settings for us all. Particularly enjoyed the hot tub but perhaps providing towels specifically for use in it might have allowed us all to partake! Speaking of facilities, if you are catering for Young children, please provide travel cot and high chairs, it just makes it more inclusive. It is actually the first place not having this provision. Overall, we all enjoyed the welcome pack and our few days went far too quickly. Thanks to the owners.

Mostly clean but with such a huge property some places were missed (I don't envy the cleaner!) However this didn't take away from the gorgeous property with beautiful views. Happily took my morning cuppa to walk by or sit by the lake, perfect way to start the day. We had snow and frost while we were there and it just added to the beauty. For those who enjoy walking we had beautiful walks right from the doorstep, great to get out and enjoy beautiful Wales...even in the bracing cold of January. Property was packed to the brim with cups, glasses, cutlery, etc which meant you didn't need to wash up every time you used a fork! Plus a lovely welcome basket greeted us as well as free essentials - washing tablets, dish soap, hand washes, dish washer tablets, sandwich bags, bin bags etc. Plus a few dog treats to keep the pooches sweet. If I could ask for anything adding to this ample kitchen it would be flat baking trays. Cottage does need a bit of TLC - in my bathroom there was a towel rail not attached and in the bathroom on the middle floor the towel rail fell away when used. Just little things but flagging so Owner can get them repaired. Would we stay again - a big yes! Definitely a cottage to recommend.
