About this property

This lovely, Grade II listed property stands on The Rock, amidst the twisty streets of old Barmouth, with wonderful views. Just ten minutes' walk from the renowned Blue Flag sandy beach, this is a perfect base for a seaside holiday with friends or family. The property is accessed via a stepped and sloping pathway and although there is no vehicle access, the owners provide two parking permits for the nearby car park. Goronwy Cottage, formerly two fisherman's cottages, is a wonderful property retaining many original features. There is a splendid inglenook fireplace, exposed beams, slate flag and stripped pine flooring and Georgian sash windows. Set over three floors, with many rooms enjoying unrestricted views over the town towards the sea, and two staircases at either end of the cottage, this seaside cottage is a fabulous hide-and-seek haven! Entering from the veranda into a spacious kitchen with dining area, which is well-appointed with plenty of units and a Belling cooking range, you will feel immediately at home. The chef of the group will be happy to prepare some tasty meals which can either be enjoyed alfresco style or at the dining table inside. The sitting room has an impressive inglenook fireplace with a woodburning stove, perfect for those cooler, winter evenings. There is also a handy boot room, providing ample storage for boots and coats with the addition of a cloakroom for your convenience. Arranged over the two upper floors are five bedrooms in total, three with en-suite shower rooms and all individually styled with comfy beds and 100% cotton, luxury hotel linen. A family bathroom is also located on the first floor and services the remaining bedrooms. The TV room on the third floor is a great place for the kids, they can play and watch TV in one room, whilst the grown-ups relax downstairs, enjoying the peace and quiet. Goronwy cottage boasts a west-facing, period veranda and a large sun decked terrace. This is the perfect place to sit and enjoy tangerine sunsets, with wonderful views over the glistening ocean. This lovely cottage is in a superb location for enjoying the shops, restaurants and pubs on the doorstep, as well as the sandy beach and the Mawddach Estuary, which John Ruskin said provided "one of the most sublime views in Europe". This whole area is a haven for walkers and climbers, sailing and water sports enthusiasts, as well as offering some of the best mountain biking in the UK. Harlech, now a World Heritage Site, with its castle is only ten miles away, whilst slightly further afield is the Italianate village of Portmeirion and the harbour town of Porthmadog, where you can take the Ffestiniog Steam Railway to Blaenau Ffestiniog and enjoy the industrial heritage and slateworks. For the more adventurous, there’s Zip World Titan or Bounce Below, an underground trampoline. A truly delightful holiday cottage for enjoying an exciting year-round holiday with family and friends.

Barmouth is surrounded by the the Snowdonia National Park, a traditional seaside town with a large, sandy Blue Flag beach, perfect for families. A variety of shops, pubs and restaurants combined with the mild climate, make this an ideal destination for a holiday, even out of season. There is plenty for walkers, climbers and cyclists, with Mount Cader Idris nearby. An abundance of wildlife along the Mawddach Estuary, trout fishing in mountain lakes, Harlech Castle, St David’s golf course and Portmeirion Italianate village are among some of the best attractions in the area.

We came for Christmas with 5 adults, 2 children and a dog. Lovely welcome on the kitchen table of a fantastic Christmas cake and bottle of wine - thank you. House was a great size with so much space - the room off the living room was fantastic for all our coats, waterproofs and boots etc. bedrooms were good sizes and fire in the living room lovely and cosy. Great spot overlooking the bay, had some lovely walks and visited some nice pubs in town - a great time had by all - thank you.

Nice and close to the beach and town shops etc. The space and room configuration were just right for our families with 5 little ones. Decor and furnishings were great blend of authentically old and tasteful modern. The cottage was kitted out with everything we needed. The separate washing and drying room was especially appreciated. Yes it was a little tricky access for unloading cars, but description was accurate and you just had to prepare.

The board games and cards meant we managed to leave the TV switched off and with the fire lit it made for entertaining evenings in. The position of the home with the sound of the sea and its views across the bay from every room were amazing. A short walk down to the town or beach made it ideal for the older kids in our group to venture out on their own whilst some slightly more strenuous walks up gave you some fabulous views across to snowdonia and up and down the welsh coast. We found plenty of things to do in and around Barmouth - along with swimming in the sea and lazing on the beach we visited the fun fair, did a little shopping, went pony trekking and played pitch and putt (fairbourne) and ate a lot of ice cream - all in all we had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend a vist to the fabulous home in an idyllic setting in a beautiful part wales
