Guests say

Penlan is a charming, characterful cottage in a stunning location, ideal for exploring Snowdonia and the picturesque village of Beddgelert. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, tranquil setting, beautiful views, and proximity to local amenities and walks. The cottage is cosy and well-equipped, with a lovely garden and nostalgic touches. Some guests mention areas for improvement, such as the comfort of the mattress, lack of WiFi, and occasional maintenance issues, but overall, it offers a peaceful and memorable retreat.

The majority of reviews highlight the cottage as immaculately clean and tidy on arrival, with several guests specifically praising the high standard of cleanliness and the efforts of the cleaner. Only rare minor comments were made about dated décor, but not about cleanliness itself.

The location is universally praised, with guests loving the proximity to Beddgelert village, beautiful mountain views, riverside walks, and easy access to Snowdonia. The peaceful setting and garden are frequently mentioned as standout features.

Guests find the cottage cosy and relaxing, with many sleeping well and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. However, several reviews mention the master bed mattress being uncomfortable, thin curtains, and occasional issues with heating or draughts, which slightly detract from overall comfort.

The cottage is described as well-equipped for basic needs, with a functional kitchen and enclosed garden. Some guests note the lack of WiFi, blunt kitchen knives, limited outdoor seating, and occasional maintenance issues (e.g., heating, shower, or windows), suggesting room for improvement.

A few guests mention the absence of a welcome pack, milk, or small extras, and note that gifts are not provided. While the cottage has nostalgic touches and is generally well-prepared, thoughtful gestures such as a welcome pack or hairdryer are not guaranteed.

About this property

Beddgelert 0.3 miles.

A charming, detached Beddgelert cottage, set in quiet woodland in an elevated position above the picturesque village of Beddgelert in the Snowdonia National Park. This Beddgelert cottage is affectionately known as Rupert Bear's Cottage in memory of the author and illustrator of the Rupert Bear stories, who lived there from 1956 to 1986. He gained his inspiration from the local countryside and wrote the Rupert Bear stories from here for many years. This secluded Beddgelert cottage has two bedrooms, a sitting/dining room, and a well-equipped kitchen area, both with exposed wooden beams. The gardens and woodland surrounding this Beddgelert holiday home provide peace and tranquillity, yet the cottage is only a 5-minute stroll into the centre of Beddgelert. There are miles of walking tracks around, some starting from outside the door of this Beddgelert cottage. Further afield are the beaches of Porthmadog, Italianate Portmeirion, castles at Caernarfon, Conwy and Harlech and the coastline of the Llyn Peninsula. A fantastic Beddgelert cottage, in a great location at any time of the year.

Lying at the foot of Mount Snowdon, Beddgelert is situated in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. A busy village, it is centred around the Afon Glaslyn river, just a short walk from the Aberglaslyn Pass. The Welsh Highland Steam Railway passes through Beddgelert on its way from Porthmadog to Caernarfon.

We stayed last year and enjoyed it so much we came back again. Beautiful cottage and even though we had no complaints last year the new heating system made it even cosier and beautifully warm. Perfect way to get away from everything and a beautiful cottage

The views and the scenic walks were amazing. The cottage itself was very cozy. We love to walk down to the village along the river. I can almost say that was one of my favourite parts although there are too many to mention. In fact, we liked it so much we’ve already booked to come back at the end of August to see what it’s like in the summer thank you very much.

The cottage is beautifully situated and has always been clean and well equipped. Heating by storage heaters is never the most efficient form of heating but the electric stove and portable oil radiators cover the colder times. WiFi is not provided which some visitors may find frustrating. For others it may be a relief.
