Castleton is a stunning town found deep in the Peak District National Park. Peveril Castle, found on the edge of town, has an imposing presence and shouldn't be missed on any short break here. It is the main reason for Castleton's existence, created in 1080 and is now cared for by English Heritage. The castle is found via a steep climb from the village and the views are certainly worth the effort.
There is plenty else to do in Castleton. There are four caves to visit - Peak Cavern, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern and Blue John Mine. They are all different and remarkable in their own ways. Bring at the heart of the Peak District National Park, you'll be spoilt for choice if you want to make the most of the outdoors. Try your hand at climbing, cycling or hang gliding. There are also plenty of places to explore by foot. If you need a break pop into one of the many tea rooms, cafes, pubs and inns for a drink or bite to eat. Whether you're going with all the family or a group of friends, Big Cottages has the perfect accommodation for your stay.
