Large Cottages in Donegal

Make your trip extra special with big cottages in Donegal

County Donegal in Ireland is a spellbinding place. Miles of rugged Atlantic coastline feature dramatic cliffs with crashing waves.

Take a scenic road trip along cliff-top roads that weave through characterful towns and villages or ride a horse along a windswept beach where the Atlantic Ocean crashes on the shore.

Wherever you find yourself in this beautiful county, you're sure to enjoy the enchanting Irish atmosphere. If you're planning on visiting this lovely Irish county for a group holiday, a special occasion with friends, or just a big family get-together, we'll find you the perfect large holiday homes in Donegal to make your trip complete.

From rustic cottages to elegant modern homes, browse our range of large houses to rent in Donegal and start planning your trip.

Why choose Donegal for your group trip?

With dramatic mountain peaks and rugged sea cliffs, Donegal is a beautiful county begging to be explored.

With over a thousand kilometres of cliffs, sandy beaches, and inlets to discover, you'll also find stunning mountain valleys and highlands.

The mighty Slieve League Cliffs is one of the best things to do when visiting. The majestic cliffs reach a height of almost 2,000 feet (that's twice the height of the Eiffel Tower) and the views from the top are simply out of this world. If you want to see the cliffs in all their glory, you can take a boat trip for a scenic view from the sea.

Tory Island is a magical place brimming with ancient legends and myths. The remote location of this mysterious island has allowed the locals to preserve old Gaelic customs and charm. The scenery is breathtaking, and the sparkling turquoise sea has to be seen to be believed.

If you want to explore some of Donegal's best beaches, then the Atlantic Drive is a must. It's a fairly short trip and you'll be treated to your choice of golden, sandy beaches. One of the best is Portsalon Beach, which features different shades of blue water along the coast.

Another idyllic coastal spot to visit is the dreamy Kinnagoe Bay. Located near the town of Inishowen, the bay is famous for its picturesque blue waters, beautiful surrounding landscape, and the sinking of the Armada ship La Trinidad Valencera in 1588.

Donegal Castle is a great attraction for history lovers. Guarding a bend of the River Eske, this 15th-century castle was built by the O'Donnells in 1474 and is packed with fascinating history and local legends. Join a guided tour and discover everything this formidable castle has to offer. Another castle worth a visit is Doe Castle located deep in Sheephaven Bay. It's not as large as Donegal Castle but it's a beautiful and haunting structure that also offers guided tours.

You won't want to miss a trip to the impressive Glenveagh National Park, which is a true gem and home to lots of brilliant walking trails. It also has a castle nestled in the grounds, so pack a picnic and your walking shoes and head out on an adventure.

If you're going on holiday with the kids, then make sure you visit the seaside resort of Bundoran. It's packed with everything you'd want from a seaside town including a brilliant beach, a funfair, lots of amusements, and plenty of places to eat.

This just scratches the surface of the amazing things to see and do in Donegal. So start planning your trip and enjoy your Irish adventure!

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Madeline - Verified booking

Well we arrived in Nephin View on 26th a beautiful sunny afternoon & the house is in a lovely spot so quiet & Peaceful.

however I have to say we were a bit disappointed with the house. It looks like it has been recently painted but unfortunately the Hob left a lot to be desired. Needed a good clean. We couldn't even find the switch to turn it on & there wasn't any Instruction Book around on any of the appliances apart from the Dishwasher.. Kettle was even a bit greasy on the outside. The Fridge appeared to be Defrosting leaving water gathering on the bottom shelf .. The doors of the Fridge weren't even attached to the outside door. We couldn't open/close some of the windows as the handles were broke. One of the Wardrobes had a Screw sticking out on the inside which would tear your clothes if you didn't know it was there. There was no hooks on the back of the doors so nowhere to hang a dressing gown or a jacket. One of the wet rooms didn't even have a towel rail & there was no bulbs in the lights over the mirror in the Ensuite..However both Wet rooms had Grab Bars which was a great addition.. This was a three bedroom house which could mean up to six people staying. The Dining Table only had four Chairs with some small Rattan Chairs if you needed extra. We then decided to go outside to sit in the sun & have a coffee & when the other person on the holiday sat in the garden chair (Ratten) the seat collapsed leaving her practically sitting on the ground. Luckily she didn't break anything apart from hurting her shoulder a bit. It would have been worse if it was me as I'm currently waiting on a Hip & Knee Replacement. Not the start you want to your holiday. I then rang the Contact Number listed & spoke to what seemed like a very confused man only to find out He was in Australia on holidays so God only knows how much that call cost me. He wasnt really very helpful nor did he even ask how the Lady was after the fall. He gave no other Contact Number leaving us at a loss as to who we should ring if the was a serious problem & I certainly wasn't going to ring Australia again. I tried another number that was pined up on a door in the hall & that wasn't much help either. The Lady has nothing to do with the house but she would try & help if she could. . A New Contact Number should have been left when the Owner & his Wife knew they were going to Australia. There was no Information Pack in the house about the surrounding area. No Information regarding the Local supermarkets/Restaurants around. No Telephone number for the Emergency Services The Police or even the Local Hospital or G.P. There was no Information regarding Rubbish & no Rubbish Bins outside the house so we didn't know where to leave our Rubbish when leaving. There wasn't even any Information on the Central Heating or if it was set to come on at certain times & no Information where to leave the used Towels. So with no Information supplied you just used your own judgement This. Property could be a little gem if it was managed properly & all of the above problems were sorted but for our visit the property certainly wasn't ready to be rented out & not having a local Contact Number is a very big problem. We are very disappointed & annoyed especially having paid £625 (€720). We have booked through Sykes before & this is the first time we really had any issues with a property. I just wonder if anyone vetted it before it became listed ? This sort of thing certainly won't do Sykes Reputation any good. Have taken photos of above complaints if requested.

Overall the property itself is in good condition and spacious.

However, the listing states an enclosed garden, which there isn't - this was a big request from us for an enclosed garden for the dogs, and the fact that there were plenty of gaps in the perimeter slightly ruined the experience for us as we weren't able to relax with the dogs off lead. Further, there is a lot of debris at the end of the property where current listing photos show a garden and trampoline area - this photo is currently a misrepresentation of the situation. Finally, there are a lot of areas under development on the property land making most outside use of the property unpleasant. Within the property, it is clean and modern. But there is an odd mixture of kitchen wear and furniture for a property that could potentially house 6. I would recommend that the owner take a trip to IKEA and buy kitchen utensils that would support 6 people (e.g. 6 glasses, 6 wine glasses, a large pan, a coffee machine, a peeler, etc.) and also invest in a reasonable sized kitchen table for 5-6 people to sit around. The location of the property is ok, but it is a drive to a village, not a walk. The roads would not be safe to walk down past night. The main reason we opted for the property was an enclosed garden, which it did not have. so taking away that feature, there are other houses better located that you might want to consider.

    We had a wonderful week!

The house is easy to find, very handy to Falcarragh and its wonderful beach. It's also in a very convenient location to explore the rest of the area. We have stayed in many houses across Ireland and this was the most enclosed we've ever had for our 2 dogs, all you need is a set of gates at the front and it would have been completely enclosed. Definitely a good place for dogs! Inside the house was lovely and warm and very comfortable. It was spotlessly clean and most things in great order. We were even left a litre of milk to get us going, which we really appreciated as we arrived late after work. The host sent us a wonderful information pack about the house, checked in on us by text and was very quick and helpful when there was a short power cut in the area. We would have a few suggestions to make it completely perfect but nothing impacted on our stay and we would definitely go back!! (Suggestions - a mirror in each of the bedrooms would be really helpful for female guests so we aren't all trying to use the bathroom mirror, in the kitchen a peeler, grater and a new frying pan would finish it off) Thank you so much for a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back!

    Where to begin?

? From outside property and grounds look great. That's where it ends.. Outside at rear the garden is not enclosed, so not secure for dogs or children. No front gates leading onto a road so not safe or secure for dogs or children. Bigger issue is the amount of building materials and building rubbish to rear of property which is clearly a safety issue for dogs and small children. Bins full of mouldy food, soiled underwear and a vast amount of flies... Therefore outside space is pretty unusable if you're traveling with children or pets. Inside house is pretty well kitted out but cleaning left a lot to be desired. Previous occupants food remnants in air fryer, dirty, greasy, broken limited utensils in drawers, chopping board covered in mould, sand and dog hair on sofa in kitchen, no terrestrial channels on either TVs, 2 towels left for 2 people for a week.. the list goes on...better properties in the area for a lot less money. That's why this one is so available throughout the year! Would not stay again or recommend. Beautiful area, but this property and lack of customer support spoilt holiday unfortunately.
