What our customers say about their holidays

Dookers Hoose is a characterful and charming seaside retreat and was the perfect location for our family holiday.

The house feels very welcoming and has a creative ambiance with artwork by the owner and family decorating the walls, a mix of vintage and modern furniture, books, games and window ledges decorated with seashore finds. This feels more of a home than just a holiday let, situated in Cullen Sea Town with its soft colourful walls, pantiles and tiny gardens at every turn. We loved being able to hear the sea from the house. We enjoyed cooking in the stylish and well-appointed kitchen and were very pleased to find so much space for storing supplies as well as an efficient washing machine. The layout of the ground floor makes it a very sociable space and on cooler evenings, we enjoyed the electric ‘wood burning’ stove which created a cosy atmosphere. We brought some solar powered fairy lights with us for added twinkle. The internet was consistently reliable and we did not for one moment miss having a TV. The little table in the front room was a perfect spot for drawing, painting and writing. We brought bikes, body boards and wetsuits and were delighted to have access to the garage for storage as well as clothes lines which made drying wet kit easy. In front of the garage and opposite the front of the house across a narrow, quiet side road is the small outdoor garden space with a picnic table. This was a lovely sunny spot to sit with morning coffee and a book watching the world go by. Just across the shore road lies the sea wall with steps down to a lovely stretch of sandy beach which is perfect for safe swimming and provides access to long walks along the shore. The steps on the sea side of the wall are a great place to sit with a drink and enjoy the huge skies and stunning sunsets. On your return from a swim, you can enter the little back yard through a gate and access the conveniently placed bathroom with shower. There are lovely coastal walks (or runs) from the house and we saw dolphins on several occasions from paths scented with bracken and wild thyme. The surrounding countryside is beautiful by bike and car, and there are many interesting places to visit. Supplies can be found in Cullen itself where there is a reasonably stocked Co-op and we noticed a deli opening soon. There is an amazing fresh fish shop in nearby Buckie and you may catch your own sea trout from the pier if the seals don’t get there first! If you prefer not to cook your own, the fish and chips in Cullen are consistently good. Any queries during our stay were answered quickly and the visitor’s book is brimming with information on local eateries and places of interest logged by the owners and visitors over the years. A lovely stay and we were sad to leave.

Cottage was very clean and we were well looked after by a superb host Debbie who could not do enough for us.

Cottage in a great location in a lovely village of Cullen, with local pubs, chinese take away, chippy, well stocked co-op and second hand shops galore. The cottage was very spacious for extended family and friends. The property has a lovely rear garden enclosed garden, close to neighbours but plenty of privacy. Gates around property meant your dog was 100% secure (field just opposite for quick walks) Superb out door Pool table situated in outbuilding (big hit with us all) via separate entrance to the front door (just needs some heating as very cold and unusable without heating). This was resolved by Debbie with portable heater. Lovely large dining kitchen, (very well equipped) large double fridge and freezer, small snug with settee and second tv off the hall way. The road noise is very loud as the cottage is situated on a very busy main road and the double glazing is old and tired and in need of upgrade and or internal glazing as sleeping is hard with HGVS hurtling past all night long. House is lovely and warm as a good heating system. The bedrooms are simple/basic over 3 floors buts some are lacking mirrors, The property is need of some tlc from broken blinds to cracked floor tiles, Damp on the walls in main bathroom - its ready for some investment as tired in places. Overall a very good setup for a large group. Again must credit the manager/housekeeper who worked hard to make sure your stay was a good one.

The house was superb & absolutely huge.

It even has a tumble dryer (in the detached games room) which wasn’t listed as a feature, but was desperately needed due to the extremely wet weather we had. The ‘Hive’ central heating was also a blessing due to the ‘feels like’ temperature outside being sub-zero. The house was lovely & warm. We especially loved the table tennis table on the top floor landing & the pool table in the games room. Also, special mention to Debbie (the housekeeper) for her friendly welcome & excellent communication. We really hope to return to the house sometime soon, as it provided a fantastic base for us all. Plus, we highly recommend Portknockie Fish & Chip shop, but ring the order in early!! (The Crunchy Fried Pop Pop Chicken is MEGA!).

We stayed at 1 Seafield Street over New Year and had a great time at the property.

Our party was made up of 6 adults, 4 kids and 3 dogs and the house was perfect for our large family gathering. The property had everything that we needed and the games room was an added bonus enjoyed by everyone. The location was ideal for access to the beach, cliff tops and surrounding areas right from the front door and we had great fun exploring the area and family walks with the dogs. We were fortunate with the weather as the sun shone the whole weekend allowing us to make the most of our time in Cullen. We will definitely be back again in the future. (Our only complaint was that we couldn't get the dishwasher to work properly and we couldn't find any instructions to help.)

We had a really lovely break at the cottage.

First few days had wild weather but it was fine as we knew we were heading back to a cosy house where we would be able to relax and get warm. Had everything we could need, bright airy bedrooms and comfy beds. Situation was excellent for visiting all the lovely villages along the coast and once the weather cheered up we had lovely evening walks to the harbour and to Bow Fiddle Rock. Plenty places round about for lunch, coffee and cake. Cullen was lovely for the gallery, antique shop and gift shops and once weather was fine we could walk to it. Thoroughly enjoyed our time in Portknockie at the cottage and are planning to head back soon.
