Four pretty bedrooms continue the sense of thoughtful authenticity, with hand-built oak bed frames, walnut headboards and queen-size doubles (that can be split as twins) with high quality mattresses. Three contemporary bathrooms also await, two with gorgeous walk-in showers (one of which is en suite).

Beyond the manoir’s stone walls, a private world opens up. The 10.5-metre pool is set beside a games lawn with badminton and croquet, with shaded corners and stargazing spots scattered across the landscaped grounds and a red Japanese footbridge spanning the lower garden. Located in the rolling Charente countryside, just over half an hour from Angoulême, Manoir des Fables feels blissfully secluded yet well connected. In the Charente countryside, Manoir des Fables offers a charming rural escape in southwestern France, just over half an hour from the handsome city of Angoulême.

A 5 minute drive away lies the nearest village, Blanzac-Porcheresse, a quiet yet practical spot where you’ll find essential amenities including a small supermarket, bakery, post office and chemist, as well as a petrol station and garage. For more extensive services, the lively market town of Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire is around 15 minutes by car with its restaurants, shops, bike rental (with the option to have bikes delivered to the Manoir) and larger supermarkets.

Adventurers and families will find plenty to explore across the region. Angoulême (36km), the historic capital of the comic arts, boasts a dynamic blend of culture and activity, from museums and cinemas to its annual vintage car race, Circuit des Remparts, held each September.

Wine and spirit enthusiasts will relish a trip to Cognac (45km) where world-renowned Cognac Houses like Martell and Hennessy open their doors for tours and tastings. In the other direction, the renowned vineyards of Saint-Émilion (78km) are another special day out.

Take a scenic drive to the enchanting village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (31km), one of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, where a remarkable underground church and canoeing opportunities await along the riverbank. Continue further across the Dordogne border and enjoy a day in Brantôme en Périgord, just over an hour away, or visit the famous Friday morning market in Ribérac (49km).

You could even venture to the Atlantic coast for the day – the charming coastal resort of Royan is a 90-minute drive. Whether you're exploring château-dotted landscapes or discovering quaint market towns, Manoir des Fables places you at the heart of an activity-rich corner of south-west France.
