Located in the traditional village of Charmé, La Maison De l’Eglise offers an authentic slice of rural Charente life. Between Angoulême (41km) and Poitiers (79km), it provides a well-balanced base for both relaxation and exploration, within easy reach of some of the region’s most characterful towns and attractions.

The house is positioned near the village church, close to the road connecting Aigre and Ruffec. For fresh bread in the morning, the nearby village of Courcôme (4.5km) offers a bakery as well as a restaurant. A little further afield, Verteuil-sur-Charente (11km) is a very pretty village with a lovely restaurant in a mill overlooking the river.

Further amenities can be found in Aigre (11.5km), a charming market town with a selection of shops and cafes. Ruffec (11.5km) is also useful for shops and restaurants – it’s a picturesque historic town with half-timbered houses and a twice-weekly market. Similarly, Mansle-les-Fontaines (12km) offers convenient facilities along with a pleasant riverside setting by the banks of the Charente.

For memorable days out, Cognac (53km) is a highlight, famed for its vineyards and prestigious distilleries. Here, you can visit renowned houses such as Hennessy and Rémy Martin, enjoy guided tastings, and stroll along the scenic banks of the Charente River. The nearby town of Jarnac (42km) offers another beautiful riverside experience, ideal for a leisurely afternoon.

Angoulême (42km) makes for an excellent cultural excursion, known for its historic architecture and vibrant atmosphere. For something more futuristic, Futuroscope theme park, located just south of Poitiers (around an hour’s drive), offers a unique and entertaining day out with its innovative attractions and immersive experiences.
