About this property

Close to the Dordogne River and picture-perfect bastide town of Domme, this historic abode allows you to experience the authenticity of the Périgord Noir whilst spending relaxing times by the swimming pool and garden with family or friends.

Maison De La Victoire is steeped in heritage with certain architectural features dating back centuries. It has been in the owner's family for a long time - once a farmhouse, stables and barn, part of this dwelling has been converted into a characterful holiday home sleeping up to 8 guests across four en suite bedrooms.

Stroll into the spacious lounge with its flagstone flooring, wood-beamed ceilings and fireplace alongside a blend of period and more modern furnishings whilst the traditional kitchen is just as charming. Thick stone walls help to keep the interiors cool in the summer months.

On the upper floors there are four good-sized bedrooms – two impressive doubles with king-size double beds, a third bedroom with a tall ceiling and twin beds and the final twin bedroom in the attic. It’s fantastic that all four bedrooms have their own private shower or bathroom.

The verdant garden comes alive in the summer months as colourful hydrangeas bloom and leafy trees provide the perfect shade for your morning coffee or reading on a warm afternoon. Enjoy al-fresco dining on the terrace with teak furnishings and a barbecue, ideal for leisurely lunches or long evening feasts.

The salt-water swimming pool, just the other side of the large barn, is surrounded by handsome hedging and sun loungers for the ultimate day of relaxation in the sunshine.  Families will especially love the table football and ping-pong.

This is a rural setting yet not too remote, set just off two country roads and only 1km from a riverside beach and canoeing/kayaking centre. Look out for hare, roe deer and other wildlife passing through the natural open grounds as you appreciate the rich heritage of this site.

Domme, perched above the Dordogne River, is only 4km away, classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, so loved for its pretty lanes with traditional houses, little cafes and the most glorious views. Explore the underground caves beneath the main square and don’t miss the atmospheric market on a Thursday morning.

This is such a wonderful location for visiting so many highlights of the region from pretty riverside villages to iconic châteaux and famous gardens -  Les Jardins de Marqueyssac is only 10km away and the exquisite town of Sarlat-la-Canéda is just over 10 minutes by car.

As you explore, come across restaurants serving the finest cuisine of the Périgord Noir, local producer markets and summer marchés gourmands  - seasonal specialities include truffles, walnuts, strawberries, honey, cheeses, wine and foie gras of course. Return to your picturesque garden for al-fresco feasts of gastronomic delights as you soak up your historic surroundings at Maison De La Victoire.

Maison De La Victoire enjoys a picturesque location less than a 10-minute drive from Domme, officially classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. The banks of the meandering Dordogne River are just 1km away.

Set off two country roads, the property is set within 20,000m2 of grounds that open out to countryside, not far from a forest – you may see hares, roe deer and other wildlife passing by. Although this is a rural setting, it does not feel too remote with other holiday rentals and campsites scattered across the local landscapes. Discover a riverside beach and summer canoeing/kayaking around 1km away and a small village with a café just a little further on the other side of the river, just over 2km away.

The bastide town of Domme (4km) sits high above the Dordogne River with glorious views. Start off at the charming main square with buildings dating back to the 13th century and access to the village’s underground caves. Come across pretty cafes, flower-filled lanes, half-timbered houses and the original fortified walls as you potter around – no wonder it’s one of the region’s most popular destinations. Visit Domme on a Thursday morning to experience its atmospheric market.

Of course, there are many other iconic villages and famous châteaux along the Dordogne River including La Roque-Gageac (7km), Beynac-et-Cazenac (12km), Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (11km) and Château des Milandes (16km). The wonderful markets, gastronomic restaurants and exquisite architecture of Sarlat-la-Canéda (9km) is less than 15 minutes away by car.

You are well located for visiting Les Jardins de Marqueyssac (10km) – on certain evenings in the height of the summer the gardens are lit by candlelight. Les Jardins d'eau de Carsac (8km) are also very beautiful.

Admire the stunning landscapes as you discover walking and hiking trails, cycling routes and even hot-air ballooning opportunities. Enjoy restaurants serving hearty cuisine of the Périgord Noir, visit weekly local producer markets across nearby villages and towns as well as marchés gourmands across the Dordogne valley, a fantastic way to try good regional food and wine as you soak up the summer ambience of this captivating part of southern France.
