In the heart of rural Gascony, uniquely created using local stone and surrounded by a 500-acre estate featuring wild deer and boar, this family château is a remarkable place to stay.
Step back in time into the characterful interiors of this 8-bedroom château featuring antique furnishings and a rustic yet classic style. Records show that Château Beaux Champs dates as far back as the early 15th century and it has been the home to important aristocratic French families over the years.
Presently, beautiful features such as the sweeping staircase, grand fireplaces and rolltop baths add to the historic yet homely ambience whilst there are modern comforts throughout such as Wi-Fi, Sonos speakers in nearly every room and Netflix. The elegant kitchen is the perfect place to cook up a Gascon feast with its large Aga and Smeg oven, which can be served by candlelight in the dining room or out in the gardens on a warm summers evening. You can also make the most of the catering options offered by the owner's talented daughter including meal deliveries and brilliant barbecues.
During the day the swimming pool affords magnificent views of the Pyrenees in the distance or take a dip in the evening as the pool is beautifully lit up at night. Relax in the gardens whilst the kids play boules or croquet before heading out to the woodland to build dens in the vast and wonderful grounds. There is even a 14-acre lake, perfect for fishing or simply take out the rowing boat for a picnic in breathtaking surroundings as you appreciate the space, peace and quiet around you.
The largest organic farm in Gers, this is a fascinating area and there are some wonderful walking trails through the estate and beyond; indeed this region is a paradise for walkers, hikers and cyclists. Keen golfers only need to head 20 minutes north to Eauze whilst families are spoilt for activities from horse-riding to swimming and kayaking or simply picnicking by the local lakes within a short drive.
As well as shops and restaurants, the local village has a lovely Farmer’s market on a Monday morning or head to Eauze on a Thursday where you can buy oysters, bread and cheeses amongst other delicious local products in the remarkable market before enjoying foie gras and local duck in one of the excellent restaurants.
There’s an abundance of idyllic villages nearby from Lectoure to Fourcès whilst the beautiful cities of Auch and Pau are also worthy of a wonderful day out. Or simply head to the River Adour where you can walk peacefully by the riverside with its tumbling waterfalls and pools, finding the perfect spot for a picnic, fishing or bird-watching.
After making the most of all that this remarkable region has to offer, return to the peaceful surroundings of your historic château and with the services on offer and glorious grounds around you, you may never wish to leave.
Château Beaux Champs is located in rural Gascony in a 500-acre estate with woodland, organic farmland, deer and boar and a 14-acre lake which is suitable for fishing and has its own rowing boat. The owner has created some wonderful walks through the estate and guides can be provided to guests. You can even camp out for an adventure under the clear starry skies at night.
The local village is a 4km drive and here you will find cafes, restaurants, a pharmacy and a small supermarket as well as tennis courts. The Farmer’s market is on a Monday morning and there are regular Vide Greniers (garage sales) which are popular with locals and visitors alike. There is also an unusual but charming English pub around a 5-minute drive away.
Just a little drive further through the woods you will find a lake with summer waterslides and a sandy beach plus area where you can picnic or barbecue as well as lakeside walks and a centre for paint-balling and tree-top activities.
Another village, just under 6km away, also has a village restaurant and a market on a Tuesday evening in the summer. Here you will also find another beautiful lake where you can enjoy some summer watersports, play volleyball or go out for a swim.
Indeed, this is an amazing area for those looking for activities with vast trails suitable for hiking and cycling across the wonderful landscapes and many horse-riding centres across the region. Golf is just 20 minutes away near Eauze whilst families may especially enjoy the waterpark in Gondrin (30km), open in July and August.
This is true Gascony, known also as The Gers, one of France’s most unspoilt and rural regions well known for its vineyards and wonderful gastronomy. One of the best ways to experience its amazing cuisine is by exploring some of the fantastic markets scattered across villages and towns. As well as the market in the local village on a Monday morning, the Farmer’s market in Eauze (22km) on a Thursday is also worthy of a visit where you can buy oysters, breads, cheeses in one of the three different market zones, followed by a delicious lunch of duck and Foie Gras. There is also a great market in nearby Vic-Fezensac (20km) on a Friday or head further afield to the idyllic village of Lectoure (65km) with its beautiful Friday morning market.
Other villages further afield to explore include three of France's ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Fourcès (42km), Larresingle (41km) and Montréal du Gers (36km).
Another wonderful day out is walking by the beautiful River Adour with its waterfalls and pools, a lovely place for all ages with fishing, picnics or bird watching in wonderful surroundings.
Not forgetting some of the great towns and cities of the region such as Condom (47km) with its Michelin-starred restaurant as well as boat rental or Auch (50km), with its old quarter raised high above the Gers river, has an incredible cathedral. Pau (78km) should be visited for its excellent spa as well as wonderful sightseeing opportunities in this historical city.

We had a wonderful time at Chateau Beaux Champs, we were very well received from the start. The service was top notch and the place is just magical.

Although we had dreamt of a wedding in France for a long time the decision wasn't one taken lightly. Living in the UK we knew it would be difficult for guests to make the long trip across France but as soon as the wedding arrived, we knew we had made the right choice. Just seeing the amazed faces of our family and friends as they all arrived, everyone could see why we had chosen this place. The wedding had everything we wanted for the day we are going to treasure forever. With the Chateau situated at the top of the hill, every direction you look you would see the most beautiful surroundings, fields as far as the eye can see. All of our guests loved the whole experience, whether they were staying at the Chateau or in the surrounding area there was always plenty to do. The Chateau has a heated pool so you can lap up the sun drinking great local wine whilst the kids run around and play on the large grounds. There were also lots of local activities such as the water park, paintballing and great amenities selling local produce. The Chateau itself is treasured by the owners so it was well kept, with lots of large bedrooms to accommodate our family for the wedding. It was also great to hear all the amazing stories and history the Chateau has to tell. We truly loved having our wedding here and couldn't imagine it being anywhere else. You won't find many places like this!
