About this property

Hidden amongst country lanes, near the small town of Le Thoureil, you will find Villa Turavent, a spacious villa sleeping eight guests. Villa Turavent resides on the top floor of a large manor house, surrounded by open fields, hedgerows and nearby woodland. The Manor House is built in light sand-coloured stone walls, with ivy framing doorways and windows, blending in with the countryside setting.

The villa maintains its history as original features have remained in place, including oak beams, stone walls and wooden floorboards. However, the villa also has modern amenities, making your stay comfortable while blending in with the historic features. One corner of the villa blends traditional and modern features; a glass floor corridor leads to a window looking out over the fields and woodland.

As you enter the villa you are guided to an open living room, with a dining table, kitchen and lounge. Make this stay effortless and opt for a grocery delivery, an optional extra when you book your stay. You can unpack your bags and start your holiday while your shopping is done and delivered to your door.

There are four bedrooms within the villa. Each bedroom has open brick walls, with plenty of space, decorated with soft textures. Windows let in an abundance of natural light and frame the countryside views like paintings on the wall. Each room has a queen-size bed with linen sheets, a soft duvet, and a quality mattress. The villa has three bathrooms, a mixture of family bathrooms and an ensuite.

An indoor heated swimming pool lies within the grounds, perfect for an energising morning dip or a slow swim in the evening. Book a masseuse or yoga instructor to visit the villa for you to unwind even more.

Outside, a deck lies to one side of the villa, offering a totally peaceful space to enjoy your morning coffee and listen to the birds sing. The villa also has a BBQ area and a brazier terrace for alfresco dining while enjoying the setting sun. The garden lies against an impressive forest backdrop, with a large sand wall lining the edge of the property's land. Relax on wooden sun loungers during the summer and soak in the outstanding landscape.

Or take a peaceful walk around the 600-acre oak grove and farmland surrounding the villa, soaking in the sunshine and the fresh air. If you want to go further afield and tour the local area, hire bikes to explore the country lanes, storing them securely in the villa's bike storage. The villa has private parking so you can hire a car, which is a great way to see more of France. You can take the train to Paris from Angers or you could even drive, taking about 2 and a half hours.

Villa Turavent is located in Maine-et-Loire, within the Loire Valley in Western France. Villa Turavent is within 40 acres of oak groves and fields, a part of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine National Park. Trails and activities fill Loire-Anjou-Touraine, and there are many ways to explore them such as hiking, horse riding, or bike rides. Vineyards are scattered in the region, with wine tours and tastings the best way to sample the local grapes. Taste the local cuisine and visit Michelin-star restaurants and quality bistros all within a 30-minute drive from the villa. A golf course is also nearby for those wanting to improve their game under the French sunshine.

See the French countryside from a different perspective, from the waters of river Loire. You will love meandering down the river on a kayak, riverboat tour or cruise in a traditional barge. It may be worth booking a river excursion before arrival, especially in the summer, as kayak tours can book quickly.

For those who want to see the sights, hire a hot air balloon to glide over the river Loire and the neighbouring landscape. Watch the world pass by below you on a breathtaking tour. Each company offers a different experience, so have a look around to see what you would like to get out of your excursion.

There are plenty of castles, villages, and art to experience in the Loire valley. Close to the villa is Hélice Terrestre of l'Orbière, a troglodyte village dating back to the middle ages. Open from April to November,  the village is a series of caves where hermits and a small community lived for hundreds of years.

See brilliant sand sculptures in Les Troglos de la Sabliere, a short car journey from the villa, near Doue-la-Fontaine. Here you will find contemporary sculptures created within a historical site, blending history with modern art. Take a guided tour and discover fossils, cave dwellings, an old underground bistro as well as contemporary artwork underneath the surface.

Head towards civilisation and explore the city of Angers, located north of the villa, on the edge of the Loire Valley. The castle Angers is the largest fortress castle in France and a great place for a family day out. The castle dates back six thousand years and has remarkable gardens, a tapestry from the 13th century and dungeons, all for you to explore. You will love stepping into French history that made France the country it is today.  Kids will love running through the ruins, imagining how it was in its glory days and battling dragons as they go. Explore the streets surrounding the castle, visiting the bistros, cafés and shops of Angers.

With so much to see and do, you will need to book another week to see it all.

The owner has been very welcoming and has taken great care of us. From taking us out to a local restaurant when we arrived late with no provisions, to providing lots of information about what to do and where to go, to get the best from our holiday.

  • Stephen

Our three-generation family of eight had a great 8 days. The home is beautiful and feels remote. But it is close to towns and amenities and interesting historical places. The host was very friendly and helped us make priorities. We will be back! Which is my highest recommendation!

  • Clementine

The host is extremely attentive and hands on with lots of recommendations and always on hand to make suggestions or help out. The home is beautiful and very well maintained. The setting is very picturesque and peaceful and the welcome drinks and croissants were a lovely touch.
