About this property

Rose Cottage, a tastefully-presented cottage settled in a quiet position on the outskirts of the village of Firies, in rural County Kerry. Featuring open-plan living with character features, ample off-road parking and a rear enclosed garden, this charming dwelling is perfect for families and friends looking to stay in this fascinating region of Ireland. Cross the threshold of Rose Cottage and you will find a light-filled and welcoming open-plan living space. Enjoy quality time with your family or friends in the fitted kitchen, styled with sage green units and hosting a range of appliances for convenience, whilst the large dining table has enough room for all to enjoy mealtimes together.

Afterwards, take comfort on the sofa as you listen to the crackle of the woodburner and think about the next Irish adventure. Warmer evenings can be spent on the enclosed patio, perfect for an evening tipple as you chat and laugh away into the night. The first bedroom is a family room with double and single bed, complete with freestanding wardrobe and side tables. Choose the king-size bedroom for its en-suite shower room or climb upstairs to the first-floor landing, looking over the living area, offering a book library for guest use and a shelf with vintage radio and old-style finger phone.

Off the landing is a twin bedroom that is ideal for children. Completing the interior is the utility room, located off the dining area, including a washing machine and cleaning supplies. Take a walk from the property to admire the stunning views across the countryside and continue to the nearest shop and pub, just a mile away in Firies. Ten miles away you’ll reach the bustling town of Killarney, home to a wider range of amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Visit the stunning Killarney National Park and explore the myriad of scenic walking trails, cycle paths, and historic attractions, including Ross Castle, making it a true haven for outdoor enthusiasts.

A little further on lies Killorglin, a lively town best known for Puck Fair, one of Ireland's oldest, longest and probably most unusual, celebrated festivals along with its numerous lakes which provide idyllic fishing grounds such as Lough Nakirka for trout fishing and Caragh Lake for Salmon. If you're lucky enough to be visiting when the Tralee Rose Festival is on, Rose Cottage is located only 15 miles away. At Rose Cottage, you’ll have the perfect base to explore all that County Kerry has to offer, with the tranquillity of the local countryside to return to each evening.

The village of Abbey is situated 7 miles west of Portumna and 11 miles from Loughrea, south east of Galway city on the northern shore of Lough Rea. County Galway’s winner, for three years running, of Ireland’s Tidy Towns competition, the village of Abbey offers two pubs and a supermarket, and a monastery dating back to the 11th Century, from which the village takes its name. Portumna is nearby, offering good fishing and watersports, while the medieval town of Loughrea is host to several shops and pubs, two 4 star hotels, an 18 hole golf course and a lake, renowned for its fishing. Gort, is a medium sized market town on the Galway-to-Ennis Road, situated in a gap between the Slieve Aughty Mountains and the Burren to the south. There is a strong tradition of Irish music in the locality and many pubs stage sessions at night. With the cosmopolitan delights of Galway city and the popular beach at Salthill also within driving distance, this is an ideal touring base.

We enjoyed four nights over new years and were so pleased to arrive and find the house had the spirit of Christmas throughout including a great Christmas tree, thanks to Michelle. Bed was very comfortable and house very warm and snug w the addition of a stove which we lit every evening. Kitchen was fully equipped for cooking and great utility room to hang our coats after wet days hiking. Would highly recommend and hope to return.
