About this property

Enjoy the best of both worlds with a stay in exquisite Villa Gozo Gardens, located in the residential district of Ghajnsielem, on the southeast coast of the island on Gozo, set in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. The villa has been loving restored by the grandchildren of the owners of this original family home. They have cleverly combined the best of the past with the present, antique artefacts with modern technology, and old-fashioned comfort with simple luxury, to make this a real home from home holiday destination.

The villa and grounds are built over one thousand square metres, of which seven hundred metres are mature gardens, beautifully tended with an iconic olive tree, the grandmother’s caper bush, and herbs, crops, and flowers, which can be harvested in season. The house itself is built over two storeys of traditional local stone, with five spacious bedrooms in the main villa, accommodating up to ten guests. A separate mini suite in the garden can sleep up to a further four guests. The villa is ideal for a large family holiday, or a friend’s get together, and has also been used for small weddings. The furniture and décor are in keeping with the villa’s history, retaining many of the original features, most notably the impressive stone arch in the entrance hall, sculpted by a local artisan, and the stunning black and white tiles that lead into the heart of the house. There is private off-road parking, complimentary Wi-Fi throughout, flat screen televisions in every room, and air-conditioning charged according to use.

Enter the house through the hexagonal black and white tiled hall, lined with a charming mustard yellow suite of a sofa and two armchairs. Make your way through the rather impressive stone arch into the heart of the home. The living area is a spacious open plan room with French windows leading out onto the garden and grounds. A smart brown leather sofa and two matching armchairs are arranged around coffee tables and a flat screen television. The adjacent cream and brown kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to cater for your holiday, including a built-in oven and hob, fridge-freezer, and a free-standing preparation island. There is an elegant ten-seater wooden dining table and chairs, the perfect place for a family breakfast or some impressive indoor entertaining.

There are four bedrooms on the ground floor, all of them furnished with queen size beds, that can be divided and made into two twins. All of the bedrooms have cool marble flooring, are dressed in crisp white linens with primary colour highlights, have their own flatscreen televisions, free-standing wardrobes, bedside tables, and comfy chairs, and ensuite white marble walk-in shower rooms with hand basins and WCs. Take the stairs to the first floor where there is a large airy landing, which has been made into a relaxation and reading nook, the ideal spot to wind down and catch up on this year’s best seller. The fifth bedroom is also on this floor, furnished with a queen size bed, wardrobes, bed side tables, flat screen television, ensuite marble shower room, and best of all, panoramic countryside views.

The piece de resistance of this property is its beautifully manicured grounds and gardens, full of mature trees planted and nurtured by the original owners, ready to ripen with fruits for guests to pick in season, including olives from the iconic tree that stands so proudly in the centre. The grounds are home to a large step-entry swimming pool, with an integral children’s pool that overflows into the pool itself. The pool is long enough for a few lengths before breakfast, or before taking in some summer sun on the terrace on one of the comfy loungers surrounding it. Enjoy morning coffee on the soft seating area under the shady pergola, or sip cocktails in the cool evening air in the gorgeous gazebo.

Lose yourself in the secluded garden, and take a walk down the secluded passageway that leads to a room with an indoor hot tub, a small gym, and grandfather’s beautifully restored antique pool table. Here you will also find the sixth bedroom, housed in a mini suite above this room, which has a small kitchenette and living area, and one double bedroom, it can accommodate up to four guests. End your day dining alfresco under the Gozo skies, using some of the produce picked from the garden, served at the outdoor table and count your lucky stars!

Villa Gozo Garden is located in the residential streets of Ghajnsielem, situated in the south east corner of the small island of Gozo, set in the heart of the Maltese Mediterranean Sea. The villa is near to the harbour of Mgarr, where the ferry docks from the main island of Malta. There is no international airport on the island, guests are advised to fly to Malta, take transportation to the northern port, then take the frequent ferry (every 30 mins, 24 hrs a day) to Gozo. The villa is a short taxi drive from the harbour of Mgarr, where the ferry embarks. Within the immediate vicinity of the villa there are lots of supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies, cafes, and restaurants, as well as a local bus system that can take you all around the island to the many sights it has to offer.

The island of Gozo is only seven kilometres long, and just over thirteen kilometres wide, so anywhere you want to go is within easy reach, and only a short drive away. There’s something for everyone to do and see on this small island, whether its historical sites, fortifications, ruins, and castles, religious churches, chapels, convents, and monasteries, nature’s trails and treks amongst the natural flora and fauna, city sightseeing and shopping, wining and dining sampling the best of the local homegrown cuisine, or simply sunbathing on of its many golden sandy beaches, you’ll be spoilt for choice in Gozo. The team at Villa Gozo Garden would be happy to help you arrange any activity of sightseeing trip. Nearby Mgarr Harbour is a quaint traditional fishing village, where you can take a walk along the promenade and admire at the yachts, gaze up at the imposing Gothic Lourdes Chapel, and take a moment to contemplate its impressive interior, marvel at the rainbow-coloured mosaics, see the sculpture of the Three Graces, sunbathe on the local Iz-Zewwieqa beach, before downing a sundowner in the famous Gleneagles Bar. Not far away is Fort Chambray, a mid-eighteenth century bastion fort, built by the order of St John.

The coastline of Gozo is populated with an array of golden sandy beaches, many with pre-bookable sun loungers and parasols, crystal clear water, cafes and bars. Most famously the area is noted for its excellent snorkelling and scuba diving, with many dive boats going out to sea to see underwater sights and the myriads of local schools of colourful fish. We can particularly recommend Ramla for being the most family friendly, you can’t beat a day’s snorkelling in Hondoqir-Rummi, an underwater scuba dive at Dwerja Bay is a must, climb the rocks of nearby Mgaar Ix-Xin, go off the beaten track at the secluded Ghasni beach, or simply swim in the crystal clear waters of the Blue Lagoon on Comino.

The island of Gozo dates back to neolithic times, it has been invaded and occupied by the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Sicilians, the French and finally the British, this melting pot of cultures can be seen in its history, architecture and culture. Start your historical education with the Ggantija Temples, one of the world’s oldest free-standing structures, and now a unesco and World Heritage Site. Continue with a tour of the capital city, Ir-Rabat, or known locally as Victoria since 1887, renamed in honour of Queen Victoria to celebrate her jubilee. Walk the fortified Bronze age citadel of the city, stop in Independence Square for a browse in the local market and a coffee in a café, pay due penance in the seventeenth century Baroque Grand Basilca of St George, before wandering the old streets full of shops selling delicacies and souvenirs. The city is also known for its collection of museums, theatres, clubs, and opera houses.

After all that sightseeing find peace and tranquillity with a stroll around Villa Rundle Public Gardens, established by the British in 1910. Finally, don’t miss a day out on the nearby island of Comino, take the ferry from Mgaar harbour, swim and snorkel in the beautiful blue lagoon, before exploring the island’s natural habitat, numerous churches, and dining by the sea shore on freshly caught fish.

Very lovely and comfortable villa. I would like to point out the spacious bedrooms, all ensuite, and the very spacious garden, which makes the villa ideal for families with children. Although the property is in the middle of the village, very close to local amenities and also to the harbour, its layout guarantees complete privacy. A very special mention to the owners, who were very helpful and thoughtful and made our stay just perfect and made us feel very welcome.

The villa was fabulous, spacious, well appointed and in a great position to explore the island. The bedrooms are spacious, beds super comfortable, plenty of seating, a well equipped kitchen, great jacuzzi and we loved the firepit which we used on a cooler evening. The villa is in an urban street but we found it to be both private and quiet. Bus stops and supermarket are a short walk from the villa. We had a driver for a day but the island was easy to drive around and there's loads to see. Would definitely recommend.
