Guests have found the cottage in Cirencester to be a charming and well-situated base for exploring the Cotswolds, with comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. The property is appreciated for its quiet location and the friendliness of the neighbours. Some guests mentioned the convenience of local pubs and attractions, while others enjoyed the underfloor heating and the presence of books and games.
The cottage generally appears to be clean, but several reviews mention specific cleanliness issues such as unwashed mugs, grimy utensils, and hair on the bathroom floor. These seem to be isolated incidents rather than a consistent problem, suggesting that while the overall standard of cleanliness is good, there is room for improvement in attention to detail.
The location is highly praised for its quiet village setting and proximity to local attractions, with easy access to Cirencester and various sites in the Cotswolds. Some guests felt a bit isolated due to the distance from shops and pubs, but this seems to be a minor concern compared to the overall appreciation for the location.
The cottage is described as comfortable and cosy, with underfloor heating and comfortable beds. However, some guests noted that the second bedroom is more suitable for children and that light from the roof window could be an issue in the main bedroom, indicating that while comfort is generally high, there are aspects that could be enhanced.
Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being well-equipped for both families and couples. However, there are comments about the need for maintenance on items like the kettle, dishwasher, and en-suite shower. The presence of many utensils and toys is appreciated, but some guests noted a lack of storage and issues with the shower drainage.
While guests have mentioned the presence of books, games, and toys, there is no consistent mention of welcome gifts or other thoughtful gestures that would warrant a score in this category. It should be noted that while such amenities are appreciated, they are not guaranteed and may vary from stay to stay.
3 Painter's Field is a lovely, recently built cottage (part of a small development of about 10 houses) located in the idyllic village of Quenington, mid way between Burford and Cirencester. One of 3 adjoining villages (the others being Hatherop and Coln St Aldwyn), you really could be stepping back hundreds of years as you meander along the leafy lanes connecting the villages.
The cottage possesses many classic and attractive features making it a delightful choice for a Cotswold holiday. Comprising of 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, the property offers all mod cons that today's discerning traveler demands. The cottage has a lovely, private garden, just perfect for outdoor dining.
As well as the adjoining villages, you also have many of the The Cotswolds 'hot spots' in close proximity; the beautiful village of Bibury lies just a couple of miles away, with the famous Arlington Row. Cirencester, the 'capital' of the Cotswolds lies just 8 miles to the west, and the gorgeous town of Burford just 10 miles to the north.
This is a nice standard holiday cottage in a very attractive village, in a beautiful and relatively unknown corner of The Cotswolds.
The place-name 'Quenington' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Qvenintone. This is from the Old English 'Cwenenatun' meaning 'the women's town or settlement' (the word 'queen' has the same derivation).
It had previously been suggested that the name Quenington could have meant "settlement on the Coln", the river which flows through the village, though the name 'Coln' is of unknown origin.Quenington is mentioned in the Domesday Book in relation to two mills at either end of the village, a water mill and a fulling mill, both now private residences.
The village offers a thriving 'local' pub, located just off the village green - intent on maintaining its status as a proper pub, rather than a fine dining establishment, which are so prevail ant in the area.

The highchair and some crockery needed cleaning before use, there was no laundry detergent which was mentioned in the handbook as being provided, and the bedroom skylight and radiator needs some maintenance as the skylight was leaking water slightly and the radiator valve was very noisy when on any setting other than 0 or 5. Apart from those things the house was very cute and had everything else we needed for our first holiday away with a baby.

The cottage and its surroundings are beautiful. The house is fully equipped. Certainly the kitchen is well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed the Cotswolds!

There were lots of leaflets for places to visit which was very helpful. It was a short walk to The Keepers Arms which served lovely food & they were very friendly- recommend. It would have been useful to have a mirror in the attic bedroom maybe on the wall above the chest of drawers. Also we could not find a way to reach the blind in the main bedroom for the roof window. Apart from that it was lovely.
