Guests say

The Downs Barn Lodge is a characterful and comfortable cottage praised for its beautiful location and cosy wood burner. Guests enjoyed the spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and the peaceful setting, making it a popular choice for a relaxing break. The nearby farm shop is a convenient plus.

Guests have not raised any significant concerns about cleanliness, with one review mentioning the property was spotless. This suggests a high level of cleanliness throughout the property.

The location is frequently described as beautiful and great for exploring the Cotswolds, with a nearby farm shop adding to the convenience. The grounds are appreciated, and the setting is noted for its tranquillity.

The comfort of the beds and the cosiness provided by the wood burner are highlighted positively. However, some guests mentioned issues with the heating system and sofa comfort, slightly reducing the score.

While the lodge is well-furnished and mostly well-equipped, guests have pointed out some shortcomings in kitchen amenities, TV reception, and heating efficiency. Maintenance issues like a non-draining sink and wet logs for the fire have been noted.

There are mentions of a welcome pack, but as gifts are not consistently referenced across reviews, it is not possible to accurately assess the thoughtfulness of the hosts in this regard. Therefore, while a welcome pack may be provided, it is not guaranteed.

We had a lovely staycation. The place was nice and warm in the month of January, enough woods for fireplace and portable heaters were provided. Also, Thank you so much to the Owners for posting back our things that we left in a rush. Definitely recommend to friends and families..

Lovely cottage that adjoins the owners home, in a lovely location. We stayed for 3 nights for new year with my husband, mum and dog. Firstly, exceptional value for money considering the location and time of year we went. We did spend a lot of time in the car travelling to main sites across Cotswolds, but that’s what we discovered about Cotswolds generally, you have to travel a way to somewhere wherever you stay. The grounds are near a main road so there is some minor noise when Lorry’s pass, but it’s not overly intrusive. The air source heat pump behind the main bedroom wall, whilst brilliant in its reneweable energy, can disturb light sleepers like my elderly mum. Grounds are gorgeous and the main house is charming. We met some lovely friendly neighbours too when out walking the dog. All in all it served its intended purpose for us, which was a bolt hole whilst mainly out and about. Recommend Daylesford Farm, Stow, Holland & Cooper boutique is a must, as is picturesque Bibury and the Jolly Farm which is literally a 5 min walk away. We also visited illumination trail at Blenheim on New Year’s Day and although not a year round thing, Blenheim is a definite must to visit. Julian was helpful and communicative when we needed him, but left us alone, which is perfect when owners live so close by, his home is stunning! I’d recommend adding some smaller frying pans, small basic sharp knives and champagne glasses for the lushes like us! ;-)
