Tansley 2.1 miles. Dewy Lane Farm is a characterful farm stay resting near Tansley in Derbyshire. Within reach of the Peak District National Park and offering generous living spaces, traditional features and a woodburning stove, making it a welcoming base for families and friends looking to explore the Derbyshire countryside. Pull onto the private driveway, with space for four cars, and take in the rural surroundings before crossing the gravelled garden and heading inside. Step into the dining room, where you can hang up coats and store muddy boots before gathering around the dining table to share a home-cooked meal or map out the next day's adventures.
Continue into the sitting room, where exposed stone and traditional beams bring plenty of character to the farmhouse. Settle onto the sofa in front of the Smart TV while the woodburning stove crackles away, or make your way into the snug when you fancy spreading out with a book or spending a little time apart from the group. When dinner calls, head into the kitchen and make use of the sleek green AGA, or prepare your favourite dishes using the electric oven and hob, with a fridge/freezer keeping ingredients chilled and the dishwasher taking care of the washing up. A washing machine is also on hand for walking gear after a day exploring the surrounding countryside, while the kettle and toaster make light work of breakfast before another outing.
Leading from the kitchen is the ground-floor shower room, where a walk-in shower, basin and WC are complemented by partial underfloor heating. Follow the carpeted stairs to the sleeping quarters, taking care of the changes in level along the way. The double bedroom looks out towards the garden, while steps lead down into the twin bedroom. The family room has characterful beams overhead and offers a king-size bed alongside an adult bunk, providing a flexible sleeping arrangement for the group. From here, a door gives direct access to external steps leading down to the garden. Completing the first floor is the bathroom, where you can sink into the freestanding bath after a day spent discovering Derbyshire.
When the weather draws you outside, gather around the furniture on the patio for dinner in the fresh air or choose the picnic table for a morning coffee while planning the day's route. A shop is just over two miles away for picking up the essentials, while the pub is a little over a mile and a half from your rural base. Venture into the Peak District National Park to lace up your walking boots and follow routes through the Derbyshire landscape, pause to take in sweeping countryside views and spend the day discovering the varied scenery. Gulliver's Kingdom is just a short drive away and perfect for a day out with the kids.
Chatsworth is also within reach over the moors, while nearby Matlock provides another destination for your travels before you return to the farmhouse. After days spent discovering this corner of Derbyshire, return to Dewy Lane Farm near Tansley to light the woodburning stove, gather together over dinner and enjoy an evening beneath the traditional beams.
