Church Cottage is a well-loved holiday rental praised for its peaceful riverside location, well-equipped kitchen, and beautiful garden. Guests enjoy local walks, wildlife, and fishing on-site. The property is suitable for multi-generational families and those with mobility issues, offering a relaxing retreat with thoughtful touches.
Most guests did not comment on cleanliness, but one mentioned a preference for a higher level of cleanliness. This suggests that while the property is generally well-kept, there may be room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its beautiful riverside views, abundant local wildlife, and proximity to amenities and walks. It is considered ideal for both relaxation and sightseeing.
Guests find the cottage very comfortable, with special mention of its suitability for guests with mobility issues and the relaxing atmosphere. However, a desire for loungers to enhance garden relaxation was expressed.
The cottage is repeatedly described as well-equipped, particularly for cooking and fishing. The conservatory and garden are highlights, though there is a suggestion for additional outdoor lounging furniture.
While guests express appreciation for the property and its features, there are no specific mentions of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts, so it is not possible to score this category.
Overlooking the River Nene, this beautiful cottage retains much of its original character, and is great for exploring Northamptonshire’s beautiful countryside and many historic houses.. Ramp access to rear entrance.

Fireworks are not allowed in the garden/grounds of this property.. Church Cottage is a quintessentially English, period detached cottage nestling by the village church, with the River Nene flowing at the bottom of the garden and views of rolling fields. Parts of the original cottage dates back to the 17th or 18th century, and it was historically owned by the village church. Church Cottage has been owned by the family since 1950 by the current owners’ grandmother. She unexpectedly bought it at auction, as the beautiful spot had fond memories for her, as she and her husband had courted at the boathouse next door. Today it is owned by two brothers who have very fond memories of staying at their grandmother’s house, and they have fully refurbished the cottage to a very high standard whilst retaining much of its original character. They have thought of everything to provide guests with a warm welcome and a wonderful and memorable stay.
The cottage is the perfect place to get together with friends and family to enjoy time together in a peaceful and beautiful setting. A fair amount of the downstairs is partially or fully accessible to those with limited mobility or those using smaller wheelchairs. The master bedroom is located on the first floor with a bathroom at the foot of the stairs. The other two bedrooms are located on the ground floor, along with a wet room, garden room, games room, a very well-equipped kitchen, and an open plan living and dining room boasting an open fire for those colder evenings.
Church Cottage is conveniently located in the historic village of Denford in Northamptonshire, and is easily accessible to many places. The area enjoys excellent access to walking and cycling routes, as well as fishing, sailing and canoeing, sightseeing and children’s activities. The small market town of Thrapston is just over a mile away, where you will find a selection of cafés, restaurants, takeaways, a post office, banks, shops, hair and beauty salons and pubs, as well as the Nene Leisure Centre with swimming pool, gym, crèche and sauna/steam rooms. Fun for all the family can be found at Wickstead Park, just under 10 miles away, which is a charming family theme park dating back to the 1920’s. Northamptonshire boasts many historic and stately homes including Althorpe, Princess Diana’s ancestral home, Castle Ashby, Sulgrave Manor, Rockingham Castle and Lyvedon near Oundle. Silverstone Racetrack, where the British Grand Prix is held, is 35 miles away, and the historic university cities of Oxford and Cambridge are easily accessible. Shop 1 mile, pub 250 yards.
Free WiFi
There is an unfenced 140 foot river frontage which is perhaps the single most unique and attractive feature of the property. However you must be aware of the following: the landlord does not own the river or any structure built in, on or over it. Rivers are dangerous places and the tenant must take extra care on the shore line of the river to ensure that neither they, nor their guests, fall into the river. Particular care must be taken with respect to children or those with any disability. No fireworks in the garden or grounds.
There are steps within the property.
Families or couples only.
Only dogs allowed at the property.
Suitable for up to 1 pet

I find it quite hard to write this review. The cottage was sweet and nice and warm. The wild life was fabulous. It was quiet and peaceful. The down side. The cooker wasn’t the best in the world, it took a long time to get anything cooking. Both showers didn’t work.

The only fault that I felt , especially as we are elderly, that the 9.30 leaving time is rather early, and because of this I don't think we will stay there again
