Rocester is a picturesque village on the boundary between Derbyshire and Staffordshire. It sits on a triangular plot of ground between the rivers Churnet and Dove. Domesday Book mentions the town, which is located on the site of a former Roman fort. The renowned JCB factory can be found in Rocester, and the grounds of the plant and the neighbouring park have been beautifully landscaped to offer visitors with a pleasant place to stroll and see the unique sculptures that decorate the grounds. The Fossor, the largest of these, is a digger created entirely out of other digger parts and a striking symbol of JCB. Located at the beginning of the Limestone Way to Matlock and exactly halfway along the Staffordshire Way that spans the entire county, Rocester is an ideal starting point for any hiker in the area. Just a short drive away from Rocester lies the family-friendly theme park Alton Towers. Historic homes, market towns, moorland, rolling hills, and valleys may be found in both Staffordshire and Derbyshire within the Peak District National Park, both of which are conveniently accessible from Rocester.
