This peaceful retreat enjoys a remote, countryside setting on the northern edge of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) and close to the England/Wales border. The lodge sleeps five guests and is perfect for families and groups of friends looking to get away from it all and embrace nature. There are some fabulous walks to explore in the area, including the long-distance Offa’s Dyke Path and the rugged landscape of the Begwyn Hills. For shopping and eating out, Hay-on-Wye is just 4 miles away.
The single-storey log cabin has a rustic charm, with wood-clad walls, homely furniture, and cute accessories and artwork. The main living space is an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, where you can create delicious dishes using local ingredients and sit on the colourful seats at the dining table for family mealtimes. In the evenings, unwind on the comfortable sofas to watch TV in the glow of the wood burner. When it’s time for bed, choose from three tranquil bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room. A family shower room rounds off this rural retreat. French doors open from the living space onto the decked veranda, where you can dine alfresco and take in the relaxing views. There is also an enclosed, lawned garden for playing outdoor games.
Hay-on-Wye is a picturesque town known for its impressive collection of second-hand bookshops. The town also has a wonderful array of independent eateries, as well as boutiques, galleries and antique stores to potter around. There are some lovely walking routes in and around the town, including the Wye Valley Walk and the Bailey Walk. On a summer’s afternoon, head down to The Warren – a ‘beach’ on the banks of the river – for a picnic or a spot of wild swimming. You can also hire canoes and paddleboards in the town.
