We came to dog walk and to enjoy being in the Lake District. The views and dog walking from the cottage were amazing. The outside of the cottage is shabby in places. The steps area in particular does not say "welcome". It is grubby. The inside is very well laid out and was warm. A relaxing place to be. However, the cleaning was not up to scratch. Crumbs under microwave and toaster, fluff under bed, marks on the walls, some of which I rubbed off. Skirting boards needed a good wipe, shower mat hidden in corner, very dirty. But we did enjoy the area and walking.

The Cottage was good but there was a problem with the heating system. It transpired that the oil had run out, therefore the property was freezing cold. The problem surrounded the conflict in the Middle East, the heating oil had been ordered but there was a backlog.Cottages.com organised another property for me.The location is good, I chose it as there is a footpath leading to Keswick, along the old railway line, about 3 miles, great for me and the dog.The Cottage seemed to have everything that you would need for a comfortable stay.

Arrived to a cold cottage to discover the heating & hot water wasn't functioning, emergency plumber attended organised via booking agent who advised the oil tank was empty. With no idea when a refill would be possible we were relocated to another property the following day. Having stayed here 4yrs ago and comparing it now, Katellen cottage is in need of some tlc & maintenance, paintwork is grubby, some lights weren't working, bathroom has mould behind toilet and grout grubby. A very disappointing start to our week in the Lakes.
