Dippers Bank is a stone-built, Victorian terraced cottage, sitting peacefully just outside the desirable village of Grasmere in the Lake District National Park. Offering a prime location for exploring this scenic area of Cumbria, this three-storey cottage is perfect for a family or group of six seeking a relaxing break at any time of the year. As you arrive at the cottage, admire the soothing sounds of the flowing River Rothay resting at the end of the cottage, before stepping inside to discover the kitchen/diner, sure to be the social hub of the holiday, this country-style room hosts all the essential appliances amidst its wooden units so you can prepare a lovingly-prepared meal in no time as the rest of the group gather around the central table with a board game brought from home.
Move through into the homely sitting room and take your pick from the plush cream seating arrangement placed around the feature fireplace, the television offering a DVD player too, so be sure to bring your favourite films along! Moving up to the first floor you will be met by two of the three wonderful bedrooms, home to the master double and a single room making the perfect layout for families, with the bathroom resting on this floor too with both a bath and a shower over so you can choose from either a relaxing soak or a rejuvenating rinse to unwind each evening.
Take the narrow staircase up to the second floor to find the third and final bedroom; a lovely twin resting beneath the sloping ceilings, with Velux windows letting in an abundance of natural light to create a bright and airy setting to wake up to each morning. Head outside and take a seat on the patio or the equally as inviting gravelled area with your morning coffee, breathing in the fresh countryside air, before pulling on your walking boots and heading out on your day of discovery. Take a walk along the beautiful River Rothay, being sure to explore the excitement of the Rydal Caves boasting wonderful walking routes and plenty of hidden scenic spots to discover, before venturing into the centre of Grasmere to find a wealth of wonderful amenities; enjoy a hearty breakfast in one of the many cafés scattered about, with plenty of restaurants and pubs to choose from for your evening meals, as well as a selection of local stores where you can pick up any essentials for your picnics!
There are plenty of fantastic attractions within the village too; visit the Wordsworth Daffodil Garden for a leisurely stroll, before uncovering the wonder of Wordsworth’s former home, where you can find a museum about the famed poet, guided tours and a lovely garden with tearooms, perfect for a traditional afternoon tea treat. Visit Faeryland and hire a boat to explore the beautiful waters of Grasmere, or venture out to explore more of the Lake District, with the mountain peak of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, being within easy reach of the village too, offering a challenging ramble well-worth the climb for its truly spectacular scenery.
There are plenty of walking and cycling routes all around catering to all abilities, taking you through wondrous valleys via mountains, while those seeking a day by the coast will delight at the easy access to the town and port of Whitehaven where you can find plenty of tempting waterside eateries offering you dinner with a view, the enticing Beacon Museum resting between the mines and harbour of the town, The Rum Story which is sure to appeal to the adults of the group and so much more excitement awaiting to be discovered. Just a scenic drive away you can also find Ambleside, Windermere and Kendal too, making Dippers Bank a delightful choice for your Cumbrian adventure.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
