About this property

Glen View Cottage, a 200-year-old cottage on the outskirts of the lovely village of Grasmere in Cumbria, has amazing views of the surrounding fells. The stone-built, three-storey cottage serves as a perfect base for a family holiday or a stay with friends in the famed Lake District National Park, with lots of rustic charm and all the home comforts you need for a relaxed visit at any time of year. Step inside the cottage to discover exposed stone and beams on all three levels, providing a characterful setting representative of its picture-perfect surroundings, while the tasteful décor gives a home-away-from-home you won't want to leave. Ascend to the second storey and settle into the open-plan living room, where earthy tones create a welcoming environment in the heart of the home. Use the kitchen facilities and have the group's chef prepare a wonderful meal using the induction stove and electric oven; granite worktops and a Belfast sink make this room great for making breakfast, lunch and supper, while the dishwasher aids with cleaning up. Admire the views of the great outdoors from the floor to ceiling windows before embarking on an exciting day in the countryside from here. When you return, dine at the exquisite glass-topped dining table before collapsing onto the sofa to catch up on some TV shows as night falls. When it's time to sleep, choose from three bedrooms that effortlessly blend chic artwork and furnishings with traditional beams; the first, located on the first floor, features a super-king bedroom with an en-suite shower room and patio doors to a sun terrace where you can enjoy your morning coffee with a view. The second bedroom is four steps down and has a king-size bed and a TV for lazy mornings, while the last bedroom is on the ground level and has a zip/link super-king-size bed, allowing you a versatile sleeping arrangement if you prefer two singles. The family bathroom is perfect for soaking tired muscles in the bath or enjoying a speedy rinse in the shower, whilst the utility hosts a washing machine and tumble dryer to freshen up your clothing throughout your stay, as well as an extra fridge space. Outside, there is a lawn area with seats, ideal for dining al fresco in warmer months while sipping a glass of wine. A pathway from the cottage leads you into the beautiful hamlet of Grasmere, where you can find plenty of quaint shops and cafés, such as the Good Food Guide-listed Jumble Room restaurant, should you want to give the designated cook a night off. The village is peaceful and full of history, making it perfect for exploring on foot and wandering off-path to uncover spectacular views of the varied terrains. The intriguing Wordsworth Museum, or even a visit to his old house, Dove Cottage, can be appreciated by literary fans and lovers of poet William Wordsworth. There are plenty of watercolour galleries in the village to immerse yourself in the work of locally-inspired artists, but for the foodies among you, an unmissable visit to the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop will transport you back in time for a delectable keepsake. You can reach Easedale Tarn by venturing the other way along the path from the house, and you can also enjoy the classic Lake District treks such as Silver How, Helm Crag, and the spectacular Fairfield Horseshoe. Further away, visit Ambleside and Windermere for further shopping and eating options, as well as watersport activities and lakeshore strolls on the majestic Lake Windermere; drive the A591 north to Keswick and Derwent Water, or branch off into the Langdale Valley. Whatever your type of exploration, Glen View Cottage is a perfect base for a memorable trip at any time of year.

The charming town of Grasmere, located in the heart of the Lake District National Park, is best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a location he once characterised as "the most loveliest spot that man hath found." Any trip to Grasmere must involve a stop at The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, where the Wilson family has been producing gingerbread for over 60 years. There are also a number of stores, restaurants, a church dating back to the 13th century. Every August, Grasmere Sports takes place, where you can see people participate in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Ambleside and Lake Winderemere are only five miles away, and both have shops, bars, and restaurants, as well as the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District.

It's got great access to both the glorious countryside and Grasmere. The cottage is well equipped, warm, clean and spacious. I don't usually come back to the same place twice, as I like to try out new places every time I go on holiday, but I may make an exception in this case!

Easy walk to Grasmere and to a number of beautiful Fell walks. Beds were perfectly comfortable and beautifully decorated.

It is in a great location (gate opposite house offers a good path across fields into Grasmere village - less than 10 min walk; you do not need to walk up the road). It was clean, comfortable and had everything you needed with superb view of the nearby mountains. The living area feels light and airy and the beds are comfortable and showers are good (no mean dribbles!). We want to come back, which says it all really! Thanks for a great stay.
