About this property

Nestled in the lovely village of Penny Bridge, lying on the edge of the Lake District National Park, is this three-storey end-terrace dwelling, Robley Cottage. Boasting traditional features like the woodburning stove and antique furnishings, mixed with more crisp, contemporary stylings, Robley Cottage sleeps six guests in three bedrooms, with a sofa bed allowing flexible sleeping arrangements. Enter into the porch where you can pull off walking boots and hang up coats before stepping into the snug which offers a quiet spot to relax, home to a sofa, a TV and an electric fire. Continue into the sitting room to find the roaring woodburning stove which fills the room with welcome warmth on a winter's eve as you sink into one of the sofas and flick on the Smart TV, perfect for catching the latest release on your favourite streaming service.

Head up to the first floor to find the open-plan kitchen/diner, the most contemporary room of the house, complete with an electric oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, as well as a handy washing machine and tumble dryer, with a dining table to gather around for quality home-cooked meals. From the kitchen/diner there is back door leading outside with the separate enclosed garden just a few metres from the property, with a sign indicating the correct gate, you can enjoy warm days playing on the lawn with your little ones and relaxing at the outdoor furniture. Back on the first floor you can find a lovely king-size bedroom and a double bedroom, along with a family bathroom home to a large bath with a shower overhead, so you have the option for a roomy, relaxing soak.

A delightful twin bedroom rests on the second floor, completing the layout of this wonderful dwelling. The village makes a lovely base for a holiday to the Lakes, being just out of the way of the larger and more tourist hotspots, but just a scenic drive away from all the popular attractions, as well as being within striking distance of local shops and businesses to cater to you during your stay. In the nearby village of Greenodd you can pick up fresh bread from the village bakery, find essentials in the Post Office and convenience shop combined, and delight in a refreshing beverage at one of the local pubs, a favourite being The Ship Inn.

Venture down to Ulverston to visit the Laurel and Hardy Museum, walk along the Ulverston Canal which is the world's shortest, widest and deepest canal, and browse the many amenities here from quirk shops, pretty cafés and tearooms to a fantastic selection of eateries. Hop on the The Cumbria Way which begins in Ulverston and stretches 70-miles through the heart of the Lake District, ending in Carlisle, providing the perfect starting point for your walking adventures! Head into the wonderful Lake District for an endless list of things to do and places to see; the village of Lakeside which rests at the southern end of Lake Windermere is a good starting point as you can hop on a Windermere Cruise to explore the major towns and villages along the shoreline.

Head up to Bowness-on-Windermere to see The World of Beatrix Potter before wandering up on foot to Windermere town itself to browse the charming centre of the Lakes. Trek up to Queen Adelaide's Hill for stunning views over the lake before hopping back on your cruise and gliding up to Ambleside to find the Ambleside Roman Fort, the lovely Borrans Park and the town itself, with Stock Ghyll Force just an easy walk away. Back down in Lakeside you can visit the amazing Lakes Aquarium, while another family favourite is sure to be Go Ape in Grizedale Forest, also home to some epic mountain-biking routes and walking trails.

The location was great for exploring the lakes and seaside. All conveniences were provided, and the cottage quickly felt like home!

When we arrived we found out the washing machine was broken. It would be been helpful to have an email advising us of this prior to our stay, then we could have packed accordingly. Instead we had to do a trip to a local launderette, and there was no facilities to hang the clothes to dry at the cottage. (There is a tumble dryer, but in 30 degree heat this seemed a little unnecessary). Luckily we met the neighbour, who was very lovely and helpful and loaned us their washing line. Having said this, the cottage was well equipped and spacious. In a lovely, quiet location. We visited the local pub (less than 1 minute walk away), and the staff were super lovely and welcoming. The food was plentiful and tasty too. I'd definitely recommend visiting. This cottage is well positioned for several tourist destinations, such as Lake Windermere, the steam train and several National Trust properties.

Firstly no washing machine, this was why we booked this property so we we arrived home we did not have 5 loads of washing, so not happy as there seems to have not been a washing machine for a while, reading previous reviews. The pans in the oven was filthy and full of grease, luckily we brought our own trays. The bedrooms which had curtains were so thin we were wakened at bout 6am every morning and the bedroom in the attic didn't even have one. The dishwasher didn't clean properly and had to be put on twice, we ended up washing up in the sink. In the bedroom room handles were missing off wardrobes and chest of drawers and the lampshade was not even connected on the lamp. The bottom of the bed had like strips off wood on the the bottom like MDF from b and q and was not comfy at all. Parking was a issue on 3 days and we had to park up the road and not outside. All in all the property was very tatty and needed some attention. Not happy with our stay and was glad to return home.
