About this property

A semi-detached, three-storey cottage, located in a quiet corner of Broughton-in-Furness on the quiet south west corner of the Lake District. This cottage has been lovingly restored by the current owners to provide spacious, well-equipped accommodation which is ideal for a family or a group of friends wishing to get together and enjoy this largely undiscovered area. This cottage features an open plan living area with a warm and cosy woodburning stove, a delightful summer room, a modern kitchen and four well laid out bedrooms. Just a two-minute walk from the cottage is the charming town centre with its beautiful square lined with Georgian houses and the local pubs and restaurants.

Just six miles away is Coniston Water and for the more energetic there are the challenging fells of The Old Man of Coniston and Wetherlam, which offer a stiff challenge. Visit the market town of Ulverston, or explore a little further on the coastline to Ennerdale and the magnificent Scafell Pike, the tallest point in England and probably the most beautiful area in Lakeland. A wonderful cottage, to be enjoyed at any time of the year.

it was good value. But i do think there is room for improvment . Think the cleanliness could be better. And i think better quality bedding and towels are needed . There is four bedrooms. but did feel cramped in the down stairs living space.

Broughton has some excellent pubs and independent shops.

The property needs updating and some money spent on it. It looks a little outdated and in need of a revamp. For £150 a night I would have expected more modern furnishings. We appreciated the two bottles of wine and chocolate for the two kids when we arrived but we found the owner a little rude. When I sent a message the day before we arrived asking about the key situation, I found the reply a little blunt - just the information without any hospitality, I would have at least expected a “Hope you enjoy your stay” the whole process to us seemed like it was an inconvenience to the host. When we left, we were told to be out by 10am. 10am on the dot the hosts car was parked outside with the engine running waiting for us to leave. At 10:10 the host came up to the house and did not even say hello to me she just said “I thought you’d have left by now” I was however tying my 8 & 10 year olds shoe laces on their walking boots, both my mum and dad were waiting for me in the car and they had left the property at 10:05 I was sorting my kids boots out for 10 minutes and didn’t appreciate the unwelcoming comment from the host especially after I had just stayed in her property for the last 4 nights. I do believe giving people a 30 mins grace would be beneficial to the host in the future even if that means telling people to leave at 9:30am. It is hard to leave bang on time with two young children. The host also said there wasn’t another booking that day, the house needed a spring clean. Overall; I would definitely visit Broughton again but maybe not Gorse Bank.
