Methera Cottage is praised for its excellent location, a short walk from Ambleside, and its suitability for dogs with a private garden. The property's highlight is a record player, adding a unique touch to the stay. While some guests found the cottage to be clean and tidy, others reported cleanliness issues and maintenance needs, such as mould and a broken toilet seat.
Guests have reported varying levels of cleanliness, with some finding the property dirty, mould present, and soiled bed linen upon arrival. However, one review mentioned the place being clean and tidy, indicating inconsistency in cleaning standards.
The cottage is consistently commended for its location, being conveniently close to Ambleside and local transport, making it ideal for car-free days and access to nearby attractions.
Comfort received mixed reviews; guests appreciated the comfy beds and sofa, but noted the limited seating downstairs for a property that sleeps four. The presence of damp and a smell were also concerns affecting comfort.
Facilities and maintenance issues were highlighted, including a lack of windows downstairs, parking confusion, a broken toilet seat, and a Yale latch failure. However, the swift resolution of the lock issue and the presence of a record player were positive aspects.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches from the host that would indicate thoughtfulness. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

Mertha Cottage was a beautiful place to stay, it was a 5 minute walk into Ambleside and we only used the car once during our stay due to the amazing public transport that was available. The highlight of the property has to be the record player, this was a huge hit for us. The property is what you pay for any some work is needed but given the lower cost happy to look past these things.

We were very disappointed with Methera Cottage and feel that the photos shown online are not at all representative of the property. In our opinion is not a 4 star property as advertised.By far the biggest issue for us was that there are no windows at all downstairs, there is only 1 external door and the property smells very strongly of damp and has black mould on the walls. Had we known about the lack of windows we would not have booked Methera Cottage. The entire downstairs of the property is the living space (kitchen, dining, living room) and it is tiny, there are only 3 comfortable seats in a property sleeping 4.Upstairs, the 2 bedrooms do have a window each, however, the bathroom does not have a window and there is a pervading smell of damp throughout. The standard of cleaning was not good, there was black mould on the walls downstairs and in the bathroom plus we found sweet wrappers under the beds. Parking was also an issue with so many adjoining properties having multiple vehicles parked outside. Online it states Methera Cottage has 2 car park spaces, however the booking confirmation stated that it had space for only 1 car.We also had an issue with the Yale latch failing resulting in us being locked inside the property for a short while - not good especially with this being the only door and fire exit ! Luckily, the Yale lock failure was swiftly dealt with when we reported it. We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years and can honestly say that this property is in the poorest condition we have ever come across.
