About this property

This luxurious character property is part of a converted coach house and stables, a couple of miles from Ambleside and a stroll from 'Brockhole', the National Park Visitor Centre, with Treetop Trek, lots of water activities and ferries or cruises around the Lake. Brockhole also has a cafe and a restaurant : The Gaddum for a special treat. Up a private lane, within lovely landscaped gardens, Middlerigg has a peaceful and secluded feel yet close to the main A591 scenic access route. Inside, there’s an entrance hallway with space for walking gear. Then into a fabulous open plan living and dining space, with an offset fitted kitchen offset and original picture window with distant views of Lake Windermere. A master with ensuite is also on the ground floor, and 2 loft-style bedrooms upstairs, with modern family bathroom. Private parking for one car with additional space easily accessible in the visitor parking area within the property grounds. Ambleside. a contemporary, characterful Lakeland village with a spectacular backdrop of Lake District fells. Ideal for walking, cycling or boating activities, its also a lovely spot for contemporary shops, leisurely lake cruises, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs. There are 2 cinemas, a Jazz bar and the Lake Cruises leave regularly from Waterhead, a great way to explore without driving. The tiny 'Bridge House' is one of the most photographed places here, sat on a bridge in the middle of the village. Oh, and don’t forget our Roman fort, Galava. One of William Wordsworth's former family homes can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens. His Grasmere home, Dove Cottage, is also worth a visit and only a short drive away on the scenic A591. You can also head over the equally scenic Kirkstone Pass to the beautiful Ullswater Valley.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The beds were very comfortable and it appears the bathrooms have been updated since the previous comments, as they were very modern and clean. It would be helpful if there was information about local take aways, restaurants and taxi companies in the folder, even if it was just a list of recommendations. It would also be helpful to have clearer instructions about the woodland walk to Ambleside that was mentioned briefly in the folder. We spotted some parking dials on the bookshelf, but again no information about what they were for. We couldn’t connect the TV/DVD player to the internet to make use of its (basic) smart facilities. Otherwise we had a lovely stay and would happily stay again.

It was comfortable, clean and everything we needed was there. It was also very good being so centrally located.
