Guests say

Todd Crag is a well-appreciated cottage in a peaceful location with beautiful views and a spacious layout. Guests have enjoyed the newly renovated bathrooms, kitchen, and the convenience of its proximity to Ambleside. The garden and views are frequently mentioned highlights, alongside the comfort of the beds and the ample parking available.

The property generally appears to be clean, with specific mentions of a comfortable and clean cottage. However, there are comments about a smell in the en-suite and the main bathroom traps being dirty, which suggests room for improvement in cleanliness standards.

The location is highly praised for its quietness, proximity to Ambleside, and the stunning views it offers. The convenience of local buses and the ease of access to the fells are also appreciated, making it an ideal spot for visitors.

Comfort is generally rated highly, with positive remarks about the comfortable beds and the cosy lounge. However, some guests have reported issues with heating and a lack of additional blankets, which suggests that while the property is comfortable, there is some inconsistency in this area.

Facilities are adequate with a well-equipped kitchen and modern appliances, but there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as problems with smoke alarms, lighting, and heating controls. The garden maintenance and lack of recycling facilities have also been noted as areas needing attention.

There is insufficient information to accurately assess thoughtfulness as there are no consistent references to gifts or special touches that would indicate the level of consideration for guests. While a welcome pack is mentioned, it is not clear if this is a standard provision or an occasional addition.

About this property

Resting within a residential cul-de-sac, just a scenic walk from the bustling of town centre of Ambleside is this detached bungalow, Todd Crag. Situated in an elevated setting, Todd Crag enjoys views of the fells from all the rear windows and offers an ideal holiday accommodation for either two couples or a family wanting a pleasant base from which to enjoy the best of the Lake District. Arrive at the cottage and park up on the driveway before heading up a few steps to reach the front door. Step inside to discover the spacious L-shaped living room where you can unwind on the sofa in the evening or on a sunny day, slide open the patio doors to reveal the balcony and take in the sweep of the fells around Ambleside and down to Lake Windermere. Try your hand at a spot of home-cooking by making use of the quality appliances within the sleek kitchen, including an electric oven and hob, fridge with freezer compartment and a dishwasher. Delight in the dish at the well-presented dining table, before you pop open a bottle of gin and toast to a magnificent holiday in the Lake District. Catch up on your rest in the master bedroom, complete with light colours, a fitted wardrobe and a king-size double bed, along with a en-suite bathroom so you can have your own privacy while getting prepared for the day. There is also a twin room which has use of the fully tiled family bathroom with bath and shower over. The centre of Ambleside is just a gentle stroll away and offers a wealth of shops, pubs, traditional inns and restaurants to take advantage of, plus an independent cinema which showcases the latest films and live music. For the avid walkers of the group there are plenty of beautiful walks in the area, with some particularly breathtaking routes towards Stock Ghyll Force, a 70 foot waterfall in a wooded area, as well as around the shores of Coniston Water which also offers some of the best mountain biking around. Slightly further afield you can access Hawkshead and Esthwaite Water, along with Bowness-on-Windermere, Windermere and Lakeside, each of which host their own attractions and atmosphere. Todd Crag is an idyllic getaway to one of the UK’s most desirable holiday destinations.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Generally the accomodation is good. We were disapointed to find that the ensuite toilet blocked and couldn't be used. Also would benefit from blinds at the bathroom and kitchen windows. The Garden could do with being more secure for dogs. We would stay at Todd Crag again in the future.

Very comfortable beds 2. Modern bathrooms 3. Great TV functionality 4. Good WiFi 5. Cosy lounge with the use of the gas fire 6. Great views from the back of the house 7. Great location to Ambleside and Windermere with convenient buses Negatives: 1. No thermostat to increase either the water temperature or central heating. We hunted everywhere! As a consequence the water wasn’t hot enough for a bath which sadly we were looking forward to as we only have a shower at home. 2. Frying pan doesn’t work on the hob….needs an induction hob frying pan. This made cooking more difficult. Could also do with a couple of medium sized saucepans and dishes as well. 3. Very noisy doors into the two bedrooms and the door to the on suite bathroom. 4. It would have been good to have access to the balcony from the lounge…..no keys. Overall we had a lovely time in the bungalow and were thoroughly spoiled by great weather. Thank you.
