Westwood is a spacious and comfortable cottage in Troutbeck, praised for its well-equipped kitchen and cosy atmosphere. Its location is ideal for exploring Windermere and the wider Lake District area. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness and the bonus of leisure centre membership. Some minor maintenance issues and a need for clearer instructions on heating and amenities were noted.
Guests consistently describe the property as clean and tidy, with only a few isolated incidents of missing towels or soap. The overall impression is that the property is well-maintained in terms of cleanliness.
The location is frequently highlighted as ideal, being close to Windermere and Ambleside, and convenient for exploring the Lake District. The quiet private road and proximity to local attractions are well-regarded.
The property is often described as comfortable, with cosy beds and large settees. However, some guests mentioned issues with heating and the suitability of the top floor for adults due to low ceilings.
While the kitchen is praised for being well-equipped, there are several comments about maintenance issues such as non-working radiators, leaks, and parking difficulties. The lack of a comprehensive welcome pack with instructions is also noted.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.
Westwood is an 18th century Lakeland property that benefits from generously sized rooms, all finished to exacting standards. Found at the foot of Orrest Head, just half a mile from Windermere and also close to Troutbeck, famed for its breathtaking scenery as well as first class country pubs, Westwood sleeps 8 and so is ideal for families or groups of friends.
Expect comfort and style from the modern furnishings along with period features such as wooden beams. Cook up a storm in the large and well equipped kitchen, complete with farmhouse dining table or simply relax in front of the wood burning stove that is located in the plush living room. The four bedrooms are beautifully presented and there are three bathrooms for the convenience of the property’s guests, whilst outside the walled patio is perfect for sitting out enjoying the fresh air.
The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.

Cabinets in kitchen are getting a bit shabby and loose. Broken shelf in shower room in main bedroom. Would greatly benefit from a proper manual to tell you all about the house, how things work and where to find things. Would stay again as a great house for a large family get together. Loved our time in the Lakes.

This property is well equipped and has taken on previous feedback about toilet roll not being enough. The beds are comfy, we didnât have any issue with heating, it was lovely and cosy only thing is we could not get the electric fire place to work however the central heating provided enough heat. The property is in walking distance to the shops and beautiful surroundings. The only issue is that car parking space was not enough for two big cars but we were able to park one outside the property and the other in the space provided with a tight squeeze. All in all a lovely experience.
