About this property
Approached down a narrow lane, tall Scots pine trees stand on either side of the driveway. Park outside the front door and step through the porch into the open plan kitchen and dining area. The well-equipped kitchen benefits from a large central island unit and to the side is a large family dining table. Beyond the kitchen is the conservatory with a second large dining table offers stunning views across the valley to Blencathra. The cosy and welcoming lounge has comfortable sofas and and armchairs arranged around the log burning stove and TV and patio doors open from here directly to the rear garden and patio. Stairs lead to the first floor landing and the four well appointed bedrooms, one with ensuite shower room. The bedrooms are complemented by a family bathroom and separate shower room.
Two the rear of the property is a spacious lawned garden with beautiful views and comfortable outdoor furniture. To the front of the cottage is a wildlife garden that is home to a family of red squirrels.
Located in easy reach of the shores of Ullswater (ten minutes) and the popular market town of Keswick (20 minutes), Flaska house is where guest can relax and unwind in beautiful surrounding and a great base from which to explore the Lake District.
The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.

Everything was perfect. Beautiful setting, beautiful cottage. Fabulous facilities from the garden to the kitchen, bedrooms and even games and books too. We will definitely be looking to come back again soon.

It was spacious and had beautiful surrounding views just as shown in the pictures. The kitchen dining area was our favourite as we could all be together in the large and comfortable space. Just a couple things to note, on arrival there was a slight mix up with the cleaning of the property, but this was quickly sorted. We managed to find another tea towel, but only one was provided, a second definitely is needed. The beds were very soft and could do with being replaced as they have moulded to sag where people sleep. However, none of this spoilt our time at Flaska House and we would definitely recommend.

May be helpful to have a Visitors Book for comment in the property - we had torrential rain for a few days during which the lobby flooded and led to a very wet carpet (and lots of very wet towels) which we reported but remained concerned that it wasnât taken very seriously (possibly not a new issue which a visitors book may have revealed?). A tumble dryer and or a washing line would be useful to take advantage of the washing machine provided. Also there were a number of routine maintenance issues which we felt were not new - we reported them by phone and left a note listing them when we left. There is a good feeling in the area that consideration has been taken for the environment and conservation and on that note have you considered putting stickers on the conservatory windows to deter birds from flying into them? - I appreciate it doesnât look so good but we experienced 2 distressing bird deaths on the couple of sunny days we had.
