Galena Cottage in Penrith offers a secluded, elevated position with stunning views, ideal for walking and relaxation. Guests appreciate its proximity to local amenities and the peaceful environment. While some find the interior a bit dated and the access challenging, the unique setting and natural beauty largely compensate for these aspects.
The property is generally described as clean. However, one review mentioned a musty smell upon arrival, suggesting some inconsistency in freshness, but no major complaints about cleanliness were noted.
The location is highly praised for its beauty, privacy, and convenience to local shops and pubs. Its proximity to walking paths and Ullswater is a highlight, despite some concerns about the steep access.
Guests find the bedrooms warm and the living areas cosy, but some reviews mention uncomfortable mattresses and ineffective blinds. The house was also reported to be cold, affecting the overall comfort.
Facilities are adequate with a well-equipped kitchen, but several guests reported issues with appliances and electronics. The need for maintenance and upgrades is a recurring theme.
There are no mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

The area is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a haven for a variety of wild birds and red squirrel; wild deer have even been seen on the patio. Just 1/4 mile from Glenridding village with pubs, shops, cafes, restaurants, access to lake steamers, boat and bike hire. Walking and climbing nearby. Shop and pubs 550 yards.
The track is fairly steep to the property and not suitable for very low-slung vehicles but is quite passable for most cars. However, you can leave your car at the bottom of the track towards Galena and walk up if you prefer, but please do not block the main track which leads to other houses further along. The track is in a « dog leg » shape, cars can also be parked at the « dog leg » turn if preferred to driving right up to the house.
Approach to property is by a rough or gravel track.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Galena! The property is in a great location, just on the edge of Glenridding, walkable to the village shops and pubs but with the feeling of complete privacy from any neighbours. The property itself is very sweet, with 3 good size but cosy bedrooms, a perfectly sized kitchen and living room (with enough sofas) for the 5 of us and a great shower and two WCs. The views from the living room and terrace are stunning! The only feedback I would give is that the home is clearly well loved and a little tired in places, e.g. bedding now a bit a thin / a little bit of decor / dishwasher was not working etc. However, these are minor isues in the grand scheme and the property is very reasonably priced. The owner and management company were also very proactive in mesaging ahead of our stay with clear instructions, we had no need to get in touch with them during our stay as everything ran smoothly. Would highly recommend to any group of friends or family.

Comfortable stay at the cottage. .the instructions etc were very helpful. The cottage did feel cold and damp on arrival but managed to get this warmed up. We stayed here for the Helvellyn triathlon and it was a perfect location for this.
