The track is fairly steep to the property and not suitable for very low-slung vehicles but is quite passable for most cars. However, you can leave your car at the bottom of the track towards Galena and walk up if you prefer, but please do not block the main track which leads to other houses further along. The track is in a « dog leg » shape, cars can also be parked at the « dog leg » turn if preferred to driving right up to the house.
Approach to property is by a rough or gravel track.

We stayed for a week in Galena. It was in a beautiful location and walking distance from Glenridding. It was perfectly located for walks, Ullswater and handy shops and pubs all within a short walk. An amazing location. The house is elevated , and the drive was fine- but the grass track to the drive was steep and had potholes. Fine for our 4x4 but tricky for others. Inside the views were lovely and you felt nicely secluded.Appliances were a bit tired and needed replacing. Fridge was new and great. Dishwasher was out of order. We never got the sound bar to work, but weren’t too fussed. The shower was great tons of hot water. The beds were fine, and the blinds didn’t bother us, but they don’t keep the sun out.The main issue for us was that we were cold. The thermometer in the hallway read between 17 and 19 for most of the week and no heating came on. We switched it on it never activated. Hence the house was cold and smelt musty. Great location but too cold for us.

The location is great and the steep drive wasn’t an issue for us. The house doesn’t benefit from much light due to the number of trees, so it did feel cold inside even though we were enjoying 25 degree heat outside. That was only downstairs though - the bedrooms were warm. We really liked the house but it would benefit from some upgrades. None of the mattresses were comfortable and could all do with replacing. The main thing that is REALLY needed are decent blinds on the bedroom windows. The existing ones are terrible and don’t block any light. The one on the front velux window is broken and wouldn’t close at all. We had two children with us and they were woken early by the sun every morning. The house can be a little nerve wracking if you have young children with you. We had to keep a close eye on them as there are areas around the house with a steep drop. We did enjoy our stay but just feel these few things are worth pointing out. Some fairy small changes would improve any visit hugely.
