Ullswater is five miles and Haweswater three miles with walks directly onto High Street and Harter Fell.

We loved staying at the Gill Barn. It was very well equipped particularly the kitchen. The garden was lovely and private. We have a cocker spaniel that wouldn't walk up or down the stairs as the wooden stairs were slippery for her. I had to carry her up and down which was the only problem for us.

Great barn conversion, very complete and comfortable with llenty if walks nearby in a more quite part of the lake district. One needs to be aware that living area is upstairs which might be a challenge for some older dogs to climb the chairs. Ours got good at it after some practice eventually.
