Just a short walk will take you to the shore of Ullswater where there are all year round regular steamers travelling the sinuous length of the lake, calling at Howton on the way south to Glenridding. Water sports, cycling and walking are all popular activities and whichever you choose you’ll be amazed by the spectacular scenery which Wordsworth called ‘the happiest combination of beauty and grandeur’. South of the lake you can drive over the scenic Kirkstone Pass which takes you down into the popular village of Ambleside and on to Windermere. The traditional market town of Penrith with a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants is 6 miles. Shops and pubs 30 yards.

A very comfortable well equipped house for 5 couples. We had an excellent few days mostly without moving the cars! So much on the doorstep! Only minor grouse was size of shower facility in one of the rooms.

The house suited our requirements for a short family break and it was good to be so near Ullswater. The children appreciated being able to play on the large lawn. Pooley Bridge is an extremely busy, touristy village and if you need to buy groceries, you are better going to Penrith where there is a decent number of supermarkets..
